For those of you who have hunted with us at Huntershill, your aware of the trophy potential we offer. Well, now there are 5 private ranches to hunt on including a new ranch two hours from Johannesburg for bow hunters and a second 200,000 acre conservancy that hasn't been hunted in 50 years. I've passed by this land for the last 3 years and have seen some monster Warthog's with huge tusks but was not allowed to hunt the property until 2019.

As well as these choice lands, we're getting access to some outside ranches that just last week produced 3 Cape Kudu exceeding 50 inches: 53, 54 & 55 inches. Last August we took one from our main ranch that hit 56 inches. These are not Greater Kudu, these are older bulls that lived in the mountains and quiet pockets that are either untouched or on private alfalfa fields where most older, mature game comes to feed at dusk. This has been great news, but expect our trophy fees to increase by no later than January 1st 2019. Book right away if you want:
Cape Buffalo $8,000
Sable $3,500
Roan $4,000
Kudu $900
Nyala $1,600
Eland $1,500
Waterbuck $1,500
Zebra $450
Gemsbuck $750
Springbuck or Impala $280
Giraffe $1,000
Red Hartebeest $600
Mt Reedbuck $350
and much more. Daily rate is $260 per day and Observer rate is $150 per day. I have many packages for individuals or friends and families. Those include daily rates and are real bargains. Want references, just ask, I have plenty. I've been at this since Zim was still Rhodesia. LDK

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

I received the new pricing for 2019 today and about 26 trophy fees increased while 6 decreased. Big shock was Bontebok dropped to $850; Cape Mountain Zebra dropped to $1800; Copper and Yellow Blesbuck fell sharply to $1500: while Golden Wildebeest and Ibex fell to $2500 each. Big increase was trophy Cape Buffalo: $10,000 next year (We have some very nice bulls on multiple ranches). So anyone wanting to hunt with us next year or 2020 need to put a deposit down between now (July) and December 2018 to get our current pricing. LDK

We have a very limited mob of Nubian Ibex. The best billy has 3-4 inches of his right horn broken off but several young billies are growing steadily.

These are not Greater Kudu

Of course they are, what else could they be? There are only 2 species of kudu in Africa, only the greate occurs in the south and one subspecies of Greater Kudu occurs in South Africa.

The each his own~

In Groves and Grubb's book Ungulate Taxonomy, a recent taxonomic revision was made that evaluated all species and subspecies of kudu and other ungulates. This review split the genus Tragelaphus into 4 separate genera, Tragelaphus(bushbuck, sitatunga, bongo, nyala, and gedemsa or mountain nyala), Ammelaphus (lesser kudu), Strepsiceros (greater kudu) and their close relatives Taurotragus (elands). The greater kudu was split into four species based on genetic evidence and morphological features (horn structure and coat color). Each species was based on a different subspecies, Strepsiceros strepsiceros (Cape kudu), Strepsiceros chora (northern kudu), Strepsiceros cottoni (western kudu), and Strepsiceros zambesiensis (Zambezi kudu) which is not commonly accepted even as a subspecies. The Cape kudu is found in south central South Africa, the Zambezi kudu (closely related to the Cape kudu) is found from northern to southern Tanzania and northern South Africa, Namibia, and Angola through Zambia, Mozambique, and eastern DR Congo, the northern kudu is found in eastern Sudan southwards through Ethiopia and Kenya to the Tanzanian border, and the western kudu is found in southeastern Chad, western Sudan, and in northern Central African Republic
