Cancellation and evacuation Insurance
Howdy all,

I'll be travelling outside the US for the first time in several years and I feel the need for some decent trip cancellation/interruption insurance along with medical evacuation insurance etc.

For those of you who travel and use such a thing(s), please share what you think best.
I'd appreciate any tips or recommendation.

Thanks,
Zeke

Ripcord seems to be the current favorite but Global Rescue has a following and Travel Guard did a great job for one of my clients when he really needed evacuation and the whole enchilada.

I wouldn't give RipOff, um I mean Ripcord another dime after they shafted us in June of 2019 for my son cancelling due to illness.

I've told the story several times. If interested, search my name on the topic.

But yeah, they are crooks.

Thanks for the insight gentlemen!

I looked at Travel Guard and they look pretty decent.

I used them a few years ago but never had a claim so I don't know how they are to work with.

Good to hear that they took care of someone in need.

I have used Travel Guard and Global Rescue in the past.

I never need to use them, however my Wife thought I needed some, just in case.

The hope is that my experience is like yours. Buy the coverage and never use it.

My dad riddled me this years ago: What do you pay good money for and hope you never use? INSURANCE

We’ve used Ripcord, Global Rescue and Travel Guard. Only had claims with Travel Guard, two claims….one for cancellation and one when my wife broke her ankle in SA. Travel Guard was great, can’t speak about the other.

I'm leaning toward Travel Guard right now.
Thanks for the insight, gents!

Travel Guard "cancel at any time" insurance is 50% of the policy cost. That, coupled with their 33 pages of exclusions told me never to use them.

Zeke,

You're totally right. I'm an insurance lawyer by profession. I'm insured out the wazoo and hope I never have a claim.

Even more spendy when you consider they won't pay out if you have to use it. Again, speaking from experience.

If I'm reading thing correctly on their site, Global Rescue is only evac insurance and I'd want/need addition trip cancellation insurance, correct?
