I wonder if this would also apply to Americans connecting through European airports to other destinations. | |||

Europe has not opened up to any travelers from outside Europe, except European nationals who can travel back to their countries, or within Europe. No airline is accepting any individual for travel to any other country without that country accepting him. I got that yesterday from Emirates. They are just as anxious as all of us to free travel, but right now that is not happening. I was told July will probably see more countries opening up. | |||

Ya maybe Saeed, but I can see many countries besides the EU members refusing to allow people from the US until things slow down there. At present it is on a dead runaway in quite a few states. I know Canada is not allowing anything other than essential travel between Canada and the US until Late July, and with the upswing in cases the last couple of weeks I can easily see that being extended for several more months. 2020 is basically a write off and all we can hope for is that things improve for things to open in 2021. In Canada the latest problem has been people from the US hitting the border and telling the customs people they are on their way to Alaska for some reason that is deemed essential. Once they are let across they head off and tourist around to places like Banff etc., having no intention whatsoever of going to Alaska. A bunch were handed rather hefty fines and kicked back south of the border this past weekend for doing just that. Regardless of what one personally thinks about this whole Covid mess, I can assure you that any of my fellow Canadians I have talked to are very unimpressed with the "neighbours" using the I am going to Alaska ruse. It clearly shows they do not give a shit about anyone else other than themselves and what they want to do. ______________________________________________ The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who are bereft of that gift. | |||

They have issued guidelines on what countries we can travel to once they open. Europe and certain other countries are in category 1. Which means we can travel to them with no problems as long as they are open to us. Canada and Tanzania is category 2. This means we can travel there, but we need to take special precautions, and obtain prior permission before we leave the country. America, and others, are category 3. This means total ban on travelling to these countries at the present time. This is for UAE citizens. | |||

Deaths per 1 million: US 377, UK 645, Italy 573, France 443, Spain 606 and leading the pack Belgium 850. So, I am OK with them banning us, for our sake. | |||

That's SO FAR... the figures quoted above are for countries where the Covid 19 virus is declining sharply to the point of no longer being present. At the present minute deaths and new infections in the US (not sure about Canada) are rising exponentially - more than 1000 deaths per day at the moment - where is this going? If you think you are safe or immune I suspect you are greatly mistaken. | |||

Even excluding the rest of the world, the US and EU are big places. There will likely be hotspots that pop up in various places. Should the US ban travelers from the EU because of a spike of cases in Denmark? I do not think we should continue to cripple our economies by lockdowns and travel bans. Where is the endpoint for this? We may have this virus for years to come. Rather, I think that we should take measures to protect the most vulnerable parts of our populations (elderly in care homes, etc.) and employ common sense measures which are less restrictive. | |||

Some American tourists (on their way either to or from Alaska) made a detour and stopped at Banff to go on long hikes. $1,200 fines by the Health folks .. whoever they are. (R.C.M.P?) There is no bigger tourist resort area west of Niagara Falls so this is really a departure from all things normal. I think for now .. until things settle down in the U.S. .. I do not see the borders opening up soon. | |||

What about the thousands of US troops stationed in the EU countries? Bring them home and let the EU take care of itself. | |||

I think there are exceptions for military personnel on bases. They can travel between their home countries as long as they remain on base. No outside mix with normal population. | |||

Trump wants to pull something like 15,000 troops out of Europe. He forgot all we had to sacrifice to have military presence in the area. | |||

Most likely a bargaining tactic. People dump on USA for not having universal healthcare, free college etc. like a lot of EU countries. Part of the reason is that the countries that have it mostly have the USA taking care of their military needs and spend a lot less of their GDP on military expenses compared to the USA. | |||

If the EU is concerned about Covid-positive people entering the EU wouldn't it make more sense to just require visitors to be tested before entering? | |||

My understanding is that Trump is pulling the troops from Germany, and putting them in Poland, because Germany is not paying for them. I wonder if Poland is?? Somehow doubt it. | |||

Ahem, EU has been barred from the USA since March 13, 2020. Part of the issue with EU is that they want reciprocity, so if USA does not open borders to their citizens then EU will not allow Americans in either. | |||

You are incorrect, deaths are not rising exponentially. They are flat, except a spike on June 26 when NJ added 2000 probable deaths. I'll let you look it up. Infections are going up, but not even close to exponentially. | |||

No, it isn't that simple. In 2018, while in Australia, I was bitten by a dog and had to have facial plastic surgery. ER visit, hospital admission, overnight, 2 surgeons, general anesthesia. Had to go back to ER because I accidentally cut some stitches the next day. Total bill? $4300. Two months later some idiot in MN lost control of his minivan on a snowy road and plowed into me. I was unconscious, broken rib, concussion, and bruised lung. Brought to Cook MN hospital, where i was initially treated, then brought by ambulance to Duluth. Overnighted there. Had bad headaches and nausea three days later after flying home; UHC nurse said to go the ER. Total bill for the accident: over $50,000. The ER alone was over 12K for one frickin hour. The ambulance bills in the US exceeded my total Australian bill. Our healthcare system is seriously dysfunctional. | |||

All health insurance companies over worldwide coverage for one price - with the exception of the United States. If you wish to have the US cover, you have to pay extra. A lot extra.
