Weighing Passengers??!!
I think it is a great idea!

What they should do is allow a certain weight for each class.

Including the passenger!

Imagine what I can take clap

Think they should say no one over 150 lbs should be allowed to sit in a middle seat.

I think it’s a great idea. Why should a passenger weighing 175 lbs have the same luggage weight limits as a tub weighing 300 lbs ?? tu2

I’ve been weighed at the airport before- granted it was a very small place and a small plane. Flying into moose camp in Alaska. The airline made every passenger get on a scale at check in. The total weight of all passengers counted and determined where the heaviest had to sit. Also our gear bags were all weighed.

The airline didn’t care about the pistol or knives on my belt but was very concerned about making sure the plane wasn’t too heavy and was properly balanced.

Were you on the trip when we couldn't get the float plane in the air?

They should.

I had a wonderful exchange with a so called gentleman/flight attendan over his mask on the plane in conjunction with him kicking the crap out of my seat on a 45 minute flight from Atlanta to Lexington Kentucky yesterday morning.

We were used to being weighted or at least having our weight asked when on bush flights out of Dillingham.

Joyce's much heavier Sister came to visit and we were all going to fly out to a remote location. When we stepped to the counter we were asked our weight. They can eyeball if you are exaggerating and will ask you to step on the scale if needed.

Joyce's Sister stepped up and said she would not state her weight. When pressed on it she finally said 160. Joyce (all of 120) stepped up and said 180. The counter person who knows us well just smiled and wrote a weight down.

Later, Joyce's sister said, "No way you are 180". Joyce said, "I know but you're not 160 and I want the plane to get there".

Big Grin

You got a keeper Jim. Too funny!

As an aside, weight and balance is no joke on small planes. It is deadly serious and egos don't matter. Most folks I know always add 30lbs to what any passenger says to account for gear and clothing and lying. Good call by Joyce.

Took the last flight out of a season on a grass strip before the rains. There were no scales. The staff naturally wanted to include all the season's left over booze and a lot of other stuff. They packed it all into the Caravan. On his take off roll, the pilot, I hope jokingly, said he hoped we can clear the trees at the end of the runway.

Fine time to tell me if it was a legitimate concern. Obviously, we did. So I suspect it was a not so funny joke, but we were pretty loaded.

208's are a great plane but can have icing issues.

They are great planes. Hadn't heard about icing issues, but Tanzania in October? Doubt it would be a problem.

Will be flying in and out this August and September yet again. We won't be overloaded on the way out this time. Still make a fuel stop on the way out in Dodoma.

Icing issues at low altitude in the Tropics?

The 208 may have had de-icing issues on some aircraft operating in the frigid conditions in the northern hemisphere in its earlier years but these were sorted out.

That issue comes up every few years. Usually when lots of people are flying and planes are full though. I doubt any large airline will actually do it.
