Will get resolved in a week is my guess. Both 5g and air travel are critical.

With Covid domestic airlines matters in us far more than international.

Long term all this stuff will have to be resolved. Only party that can do that is us government. And what us does will set standard for the world. Just like fcc does with spectrum.

Power band on spectrum.

Spectrum is single handily the most complicated, corrupt, critical global issue outside of climate change.

Since 5G and radar altimeters work in the same bandwidth, why is this problem unique to the 777? Wouldn’t radar altimeters in the A350 and Boeing 787 also be affected?

This is not emirates or Japan airlines - they are irrelevant players to us policy makers.

They are however proxies for Boeing.

The right way to look at it is Boeing versus telecom carriers.

I am 100 percent sure this went thru a fcc administrative process.

Sometimes bigger policy issues go thru an fcc administrative process but are them hammered out outside the fcc process. This is one of them.

Boeing should be renamed

BOING BOING BOING!

Bouncing from one controversy to another.

What once was a great company, has been taken over by stupid bean counters.

First they killed all the American competition, then they started their downward spiral!

5G critical?

How?

What does 5G do that lower speed cell connection doesn’t?

I get it allows streaming of entertainment, but critical? Like in airliner crash?

I understand the whole bit about FCC and their f-up. Heads should roll there.

Thanks Obama, Trump, and Biden.

Our Transportation Sec, Mayor Pete, didn't bother to look into this.

This administration is asleep at the wheel.

The FAA warned that the new 5G technology could interfere with instruments, such as altimeters, which measure how far above the ground an airplane is traveling.

Altimeters operate in the 4.2-4.4 GHz range and the concern is that the auctioned frequencies sit too close to this range.

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said last month the FAA’s 5G directives would bar the use of radio altimeters at about 40 of the biggest US airports.

US airlines have warned the directives could disrupt up to 4 percent of daily flights.

Kirby insisted if left unresolved it could mean that at major US airports in the event of bad weather, cloud cover or even heavy smog “you could only do visual approaches essentially.”
