Flights Jo'burg to Durban that allow firearms Transport?
Hello all,
I am in the planning stage of scheduling flights to Durban. With SAA out of the picture for me (got dragged over the coals last year with them and am still awaiting compensation) I am trying to determine best flight arrangements. With US airline companies I can get to Jo'burg, but now wondering the airline to transfer to for flights into Durban that will transport firearms. If anyone could point me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it. Many Thanks.

Even during "normal" times, much less in todays travel climate, why wouldn't you use a travel agent who specializes in African travel for hunters? They can certainly make travel much easier.

Domestic carriers in SA that allow firearms carriage are SA Airlink and Safair, robncolorado is giving good advice in these crazy times.

Yes! You need a travel agent familiar with traveling with guns. Gracy Travel, Travel With Guns and Kathi Klimes can all help you. Gracy has employees on the ground in JNB to assist you and that is who I recommend.

I thank you all for your input. 'Why wouldn't i just use a travel agent'...well I've traveled extensively throughout the world in my business life and to Africa to hunt 14 or 15 times with firearms without concern or issue. You might call me a seasoned traveler. Though the situation in the world today is much different than past travel circumstances. Utilizing a travel agent might be the most prudent thing to do.

Mark, thank you for your recommendations concerning reputable TA's. I will certainly makes inquiries to them concerning their services.

Big Bullet,

You will not go wrong using Gracy travel.

The VIP meet and greet in Joberg will get you through the Airport in good time to catch a later flight the same day if you so choose. Most times your luggage is in a cart waiting on your entry through customs (provided you forward pictures of your luggage to Gracy), and the VIP through customs is quick. Plus, I have been at the head of the line at the gun room using Gracy, quick and easy.

I have went on the later flight and that put you into Durban late at night (about 10 PM) and the drive to camp even if a few hours put you in the early hours the next morning. so my solution was to book a room at the City Lodge motel at the airport, you are escorted to the motel by Gracy travel. with the Covid experience you no longer have the option of the buffet for breakfast, however they do have a good menu to order from, then a Gracy meet at the desk and you are walked back to the airport for check in. And returning from Durban to Joberg you are met and taken through rechecking and firearm section and on your way home.

As my wife said to me, the VIP process that Gracy travel provides, that is the best money spent on the trip.

You know I've probably made 15 trips to south Africa......and I still do this almost to the letter! Gracy travel and Bruce ( Gracys guy on the ground in joberg) are great to have if there are any hiccups.

Especially in this day with Covid......if any thing happens and you have to change flights for some other reason a phone call to Doug Gray ......everything is taken care of.
