Sold to me. I spent two seasons working in the Kafue (right across the river from Andrew's area), and this watercolor takes me back to those days. I can't get over how evocative it is. Ben has clearly inherited his father's artistic gift and his appreciation for the beauty of Africa. I look forward to collecting more of his work in the years to come.

My Father was an artist and most of his work was watercolor and pen & ink. Watercolor is very difficult. There's little chance to hide "mistakes" you don't like.

This is nicely done Ben. Certainly reminds me of Royal Kafue.

Cheers

Well done mate. This view is an extension of the Mutambashi dambo behind my camp. You will remember the Mutambashi swamp in Lunga Luswishi across the river from me. Same drainage system.

I assumed it was from your side. The Mutambashi swamp is one of my favorite places in the GMA. As you may recall, when Jim shot his lion with you, I was perched in that big fig tree on the rock outcrop that overlooks the swamp, glassing for sitatunga. I heard the roars and then the shots, followed by the celebration.

The plan is to get back there (both sides of the river) before too long. I'm sure having Ben's painting to look at from time to time while I toil away in my office will encourage that return.

No doubt interesting to listen to from your perspective.

Cheers

Sorry for the miscommunication. It is from my side and behind my camp. The area is called Mutambashi both sides of the river.

No miscommunication, apart from my last confusing post. I understood what you meant. It was my original hunch that it was from your side. To be honest, a dambo is a dambo, to some degree. The painting reminds me of the dambo on Richard's side downstream--with all the puku and the unfortunate elephant potholes.

It is a lovely fresh watercolour and would do well with quite a deep mount and put it behind glass when you choose a frame.

I'm excited to have it. Ben also emphasized the importance of the right frame and mat and even suggested getting Guida's thoughts. I'll post a photo once it's finished.

Haven't done it yet, alas. 2017 was a challenging year, in good ways and bad, and I simply didn't get to it. But I expect I'll have it framed in the next couple of months.
