Fresh off the bench, a timeless No. 1 chambered in .300 H&H.

I purchased this stock blank about 18 months ago right here in the classifieds from Mr. Glen Wells. Glen said the blank had come from Jerry Kuhnhausen's personal collection and was reported to be over 50 years old. For those of you who had expressed an interest in this blank, I thought you might be interested in seeing what you missed out on. Wink

I'm still doing my best to plagiarize SDH's side-lever stock design; not there yet, but I'm quite pleased with the way this one came together. Any of you interested in taking one of his stockmaking classes, all I can say is that it's money well spent.

Metalwork by John McLaughlin, engraving by Gordon Alcorn.

Man oh man. That is seriously beautiful.

I own one of the Boddington No. 1's in 300H&H. It's one of my favorite rifles. Having a stock like yours on it would be icing on the cake.

Really nice job there, congrats. No plagiarism here at all, just like everyone else, you “borrow” from your predecessors.

Very nice!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Thanks! This particular stock was not stained, only finished with McLaughlin’s Old World Stock Finish. Nice stick, but a little chippy to work in some spots.

Sweet job Lee! Thanks for the comment about my Seminars. Lee was the guy, about 10 years ago who asked me if I would teach him to make a custom rifle stock. Classes cancelled this year because of covid. I have every intention to teaching two sections of Stockmaking in 2021 and a class on Metal Prep & Rust bluing.

Looks to me like Lee and got the stock design pretty close. But you do need some work on the sidelever conversion~~ Maybe John can help with that?

It’s only well done because I didn’t do it. Wink

That credit goes to Mary Ann Hockenbury, who BTW is a lovely lady to work with if anyone is in need of a checkering specialist.

Superb craftsmanship. No offense to SDH, but I much prefer the underlever. But the rest of the rifle, like LRx's, is stunning.

A very nice job Lee. You had an excellent instructor too.

You will like the 300 H&H and 26 inch barrel . I have one and with Barnes X bullets it will hammer Elk and Bear.

I like the open grip. Can you tell me what it measures from trigger to the front edge of the grip cap ?

I echo this. Beautiful gun and craftsmanship, but I have zero experience with a side lever. However, I do see the utility when shooting prone.

Thank you! This one actually carries a 27" #4 contour Krieger barrel. The No. 1 action is short enough to get away with a bit longer barrel without making an unwieldy rifle, and 27" seemed more interesting than 26"!

The trigger to the edge of grip cap measures 3.75"
