I have a K. Kales large ring small thread action. I was told that it was not suitable for 60,000 PSI rounds like a .270 Win......more for lower pressure rounds like 50,000 PSI.

What's the opinion of this?

And thanks for your input.

60k psi is more like 30-06 pressure. The 270 works up to 65k psi (i.e. magnum pressure). I would send it to the metal treating wizards.

My first suggestion is throw the Turk produced action in the junk bin. I’ve got probably going on half a dozen in the shop that all have issues.

Buy a couple of dcpd’s $150 actions and send them out for heat treat. Cherry pick the best components for fit and go from there.

So Nathan, what are the issues? Other than external finish, the one I have is actually pretty nice.

It is entirely possible that it is very nice, I have handled a very small sample size, it is however peculiar that the few I have handled all have issues.

I have a local customer that has been with me since I started my shop. I do not, and will not work on those, but he brought me one and asked if I would do a quick build on it. He had me stick a prefit barrel in it, and I let him know it was ready. Before he came by I dropped the barreled assembly into the stock, but it wouldn't fit. The barrel was pointing off to left field. HOLY SHIT!

I showed it to him, I teased him this was why I don't use Turk's etc. He bought another Turk and I popped the barrel in it. He took it home, went to work up some loads, but the rounds bind. He brings it back. Same issue, but not as bad.

Then I start to question the prefit. Do a quick and dirty setup in the Monarch to check the barrel. Setup wasn't anything precise, but it quickly showed the barrel was within a few thousandths.

Do a quick and dirty setup using a tap held in a Jacobs Rubberflex, tap runout is less than .001, screw a receiver on, put in bushings and a Manson precision rod. .705-.710 bushings are a good fit, but the rod won't go in between them due to the mismatch. .700-.705 bushings are sloppy as hell, but the rod will slide into them with a little more "force" than I like, that is, you have to use some pressure.

Point of the story is this. The first receiver that I mentioned, it had around .300" runout at the end of the receiver. You read that correctly, .300", almost 5/16". The second receiver had around .100 if I remember correctly. Another was around .150" or maybe .130". Grabbed a random DWM receiver, around .005", a random Oberndorf 1903, around .003".

He gave me $100 for the lesson and wasting my time and hasn't bought a Turk since.

I just checked so that I am speaking correctly, I have 4 Turk receivers, each with issues. Three are the above mentioned receivers.

Whether it is my time, or my customers time, it simply isn't worth messing with them if I am going to build a nice rifle.

Can you build a rifle with those actions, yes, but the threads have to be very, very, very, loose so that the shoulders square up the barrel, and everything else has to be loose so as not to bind up.

You may have a very nice one... as I said my sample size was VERY small. VERY VERY VERY small.

8500 (nice finish, worst internals), 187000, and 213000 all had issues.
