I am in the process of buying a LH Winchester M70 Classic that was custom built by (I think) Joe Bautz. It is a 7 X 57 with Kreiger barrel, English walnut stock, and Swarovsky scope. A nice looking rifle.

I do not have the rifle in hand yet, so I am going by the photos and descriptions I have seen.

Can anyone tell me a little about Joe and his work? I am hoping to confirm that this rifle was made by him.

Look at his work and read a little bit about him on pages 35-38 of Steve Hughes' book entitled Custom Rifles in black and white.

Joe is listed on the ACGG.org web site. You could probably ask him if he made the rifle?
