Have a new 404 being built and got the photos from the metalsmith back today and thought some here may appreciate them. Thanks to AR member McKay for parting with the Satterlee action. He offered it to me 3 years earlier, and still had it when I finally made the decision to move forward with this project. Morris Milani of Alaska Arms did the barrel, it's one of his half octagon, half ovate profiles with all features integral.Thankfully Morris had the Kriger 1-14 twist blank in inventory so that shaved months off the project versus having to order the blank and wait. As soon as it comes back to me it will be off to the stockmaker Steve Durren and hopefully ready for our next Africa hunt.

Middle blank will be the one going on this rifle.

Wood! Without reading further, you made the correct choice in my opinion, but I’m sure it wasn’t an easy one!

I meant to be DSC Member...bad typing skills.

Stuart,
You had a hand in this project, and thank you for that. I hope you got the dummy rounds Morris asked me to send you.

I did get them. Thank you, they will come in handy as I've been working up more actions several of which are 404 actions.

Now those components will make a fine rifle!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

Life grows grim without senseless indulgence.

Morris not only created a very attractive front half barrel contour and at the same time got rid of a million hours of work associated with half octagon/half round.

Very original...I like it! I would shamelessly plagiarize!

That looks like it will turn ou nicely!

It's not the caliber of the rifle that matters - It's the caliber of the man behind it.
