Looking to have an integrally suppressed .375 built. I don't have any spare left-handed actions, so I asked the company I'm thinking of using (Suppressed Weapons Systems) what action they prefer to work with. The recommendation was the Bighorn Origin Action (CRF, but same footprint as the Rem 700, comes in LH).

Couple questions:

Anyone have any experience with Bighorn (or Zermatt) actions - good or bad?

The integrally suppressed barrel for the .375 H&H is 20" of rifling, 8" of baffles for an overall barrel length of 28". I would prefer to stick with H&H for reloading purposes, but is only 20" of rifling too short for the H&H?

Thanks,

Bighorn actions are nice. I've built on two of their SR3 actions. You could interchange the barrels between the two and headspace was right on.

I checked runout on them with a mandrel in the lathe. Both were true and straight. I don't recall the runout readings, but they were tiny numbers. No cleanup needed.

They have a Savage thread pattern tennon.

So you can just order a Savage barrel nut barrel and spin it up.

There are about 20 Remington 700 clone actions made in America now. All of them are good, some are tighter than others.

In the Sniper rifle shootouts PRS and NRL they are considered to be a top action.

20” barrel on a 375 is no problem. If you’re a hand loader, use lighter monometal bullets and faster burning powders and you won’t notice any difference

Use enough gun...
Shoot 'till it's dead, especially if it bites.
