Years ago a gunsmith friend barreled a P-14 as a 500 Jefferey. I had planned to do the magazine and feed work myself but instead it's just gathered dust in the safe for years. Looking for suggestions for a smith who is up to making a magazine and can work the feed rails for reliable feeding and ejection. I'm not looking for a high grade custom, just a reliable working rifle. I discussed the work with a smith a few years ago but have lost his contact information. I know there are a few smiths that should be up to this work.

Hello Paul,

If nome of the members here have a good lead for you, the American Custom Gunmakers Guild ACGG would be a excellent place to start. Personally I would never use anyone that is not a member. They must have a high level of craftsmanship needed just to be considered for membership.

A-Square would have been the obvious choice, but they're no longer in business.

Key is a proper mag box (in addition to rail work)

It seems to me that in the past I have read a number of threads here about the very fine work that a gentleman by the name of Nick Hughes does on enfield rifles. If i recall correctly he practices in Oklahoma someplace. Do a search.

Jim Wisner wrote the book on that conversion so to speak.
Find 'Gunmaker' magazine issues #79 & #80 . Mr Wisner wrote an extensive article on that conversion.

Nick Hughes is the MAN, if he isn't buried. He did a lot of work on my M17 Rigby.

Good reference. Note the name of the 416 in the title Smiler
