Yikes!

I can't afford to be a collector, but have aspired to a nice Brno Vz24.

So I've been watching the auction sites.

Noticed a fairly nice Czech Lion crest E3 small lion 36, all matching, the stock in nice condition but a few dings, with a Czech sling.

It started off at $350, and didn't really move until yesterday.

It closed a couple of hours ago at $1275.

$1275!!!!

Wowsers!

I saw that. It had to be shell bidding going on. There's never been a VZ/24 made worth that kind of money!

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

5 years ago they were $70 + $6 tax at BIG5.

I got a dozen hand picked at $76 out the door.

I would pay double that now.
Not as good a return as I have got from Google stock, but it was an ok investment.

I remember the rifle in question. The reason why it went so "high" is that it was a German modified vz24 and matching. Given those two characteristics the price was actually considered "good" in the collecting community.

As a "tool" no collectible mauser is worth more than a couple hundred dollars. As a shooter one would be much better off buying a mm import vz24. However as a collectible piece that price was about right.
