A friend of mine, who was a regular on this sight years ago, told me a story about someone who had access to some very good double rifle that posted comments. He said he thought he was named Shootaway. From what I was told Shootaway was kind of like a know it all that you guys had to Bitch Slap. Is my friend full of it or was Shootaway someone that did exist and needed Bitch Slapped or was he a good guy and a parodie? | ||

A bit odd in the head and he worked hard to turn people against him. He made a short comeback under another name and Saeed recognized him, called him out, and he disappeared. In Shootaway's words, I was the "garbage collector" as I had a nice selection of pre war English doubles and nothing on earth was a good as his Searcy .450. Yes, he pissed off a lot of good gents here. The impression I got was that George is one of those people who should never have gotten involved with guns or hunting. We have had quite a few of those here over the years. And every single one was shown for what he really is. George might be an expert. In his own mind!  | |||

Thanks, MY friend said that he didn't understand why George did some of the posts he did but enjoyed how the other members would straighten him out. He said it was quite funny at times. | |||

I met George at DSC in early 2020 ( I think ). We had emailed a couple of times. He seemed a quiet guy, perhaps a loner in some respects and in my estimation obviously has that smouldering love of Africa hunting burning within. It was easy enough talking to George about our Africa hunting experiences. A while back he posted a video here of an Elephant hunt he did ( in Moz ? ) with Rich Tabor. Said he edited the movie himself and whatever the case I thought it successfully captured the grit and essence of his hunt. I enjoyed watching it. Not defending some of his AR behaviour. I think George tested Buzz Charlton's tolerant nature once too often and earned himself a ban but an AR profile is not always a true indication of a man's character when the interaction is more personal. Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing. | |||

Great point. From what I have read here the members of AR probably compose some of the greatest living hunters and gun builders left today. The wealth of information available and how the members answer any question you pose is truly amazing. The members are a rare breed of men in todays world. | |||

AR is like a very large village. The people living there are from all walks of life. From all corners of the world. Governed by very loose rules. One stands on his own two feet, and is judged by his behavior. This has shown that we have the best of what society offers in character, honesty and integrity. And we also have some of the absolutely worse, low life of the hunting community. Each of us can decide what to believe, or not to believe. I have met a large number of members here, there are others I would love to meet. There are a few I would not careless if they fell off the face of the earth. These are the shameful idiots, who have proven to us time and time again, what sort of low lives they are. | |||

George came to Houston for the Hoot and Shoot at the Bayou Rifle range, south of Houston, back in 2010. Quite a few of us met him there. He was a little bit odd on the forum, however I will use a quote from Mr. Jines' post about the event.

He came to the Hoot and Shoot - and shoots VERY well. I met him at the 2020 DSC. He seemed very quiet and reserved. I told him that I enjoyed his elephant hunting video. He made a frontal brain shot on his elephant with iron sights. Dropped it on the spot. He then recorded the cutting up of the elephant by the locals. It was all very interesting and well done. | |||
