A bushel of barrels?

Aaron LittleA bushel of barrels?
I just wrapped up this project for a customer. Made three double rifle barrel sets; a .450NE and two 9.3x74r sets. This set also has 12ga, 16ga, 20ga, and 28ga barrels sets as well. The 12ga action houses the .450ne, one of the 9.3 sets, the 12ga, and 16ga. The 20ga action has a 9.3 set, 20ga, and 28ga.
In the event of the customer going over to Africa alone he only has to take one gun, the 12ga-16ga-450-9.3 set. Likewise if someone accompanies him having both guns, one in .450ne as the "stopping" rifle, and the other in 9.3 for smaller game.
So alas, a two gun seven barrel set.

vlwtx348That's a very nice set Aaron. Makes one envious.
But I am curious. I asked my PH about bringing an Encore with 2 or 3 barrels and he said each caliber would count as a firearm.
Not trying to derail the thread.
Great work

Todd WilliamsThose are beautiful Aaron. The wood is outstanding. Only thing that would have made them nicer would be if the forearms were of the splinter persuasion.

Aaron LittleI concur! The two scratch built doubles im doing now will have splinters.
Awesome work, looks great !

crsheltonAaron and Todd,
Please do not knock the fore ends; this style provides more pretty wood to admire.
Also, they look like the fore end on my Beretta DR.
BTW, what action is that ?

A beavertail fore end compared to a splinter fore end is like:
Drinking bourbon with Coca Cola vs sipping a fine single malt Scotch with a dab of water to open the flavor.
Smoking a menthol cigarette instead of a fine English tobacco in a well seasoned Meerschaum pipe.
Listening to Pop Music with catchy hooks instead of complex musical arrangements with augmented chords and modal melodies.
Asking out the girl with bleach blond hair and fake boobs instead of the one with the naturally beautiful features that grow more appealing each time you look at her.

crsheltonTodd,
Thanks for the list of comparisons.
However, I shoot both beaver tail and splinter guns and rifles and both break clays or bones just fine.
I still do not know the make of the donor actions for those beautiful rifles.

AtkinsonHow did you approach the firing pin difference between the rifles and shotguns???? That causes some problems of ignition etc.

Aaron LittleIgnition is never an issue. Managing pressure/primer flow/ and primer failure is.
If needed the firing pins and bushings can be sized down to compensate for the higher pressures. Generally I like about .070” max firing pin diameter on rifles, unless it’s a larger/lower pressure rifle caliber. Protrusion is also checked.
But for grins, I’ve measured a vintage Westley Richards .470ne with .105” firing pin diameter, it had no issues with primer flow. It wasn’t vented as well.

jens poulsenThanks for sharing Aaron.
Wonderful to see and very inspirering. I have for some time considered a spare barrelset for my .450Nitro.
