Anybody used any of Hornady's new "Superperformance" ammo? How about their new GMX mono-metal bullets? I'm thinking about using their Superperformance .300 Win Mag rounds loaded with 165 grain GMX bullets for an elk hunt this Fall. Regards, Bill.

bewilderedWhy not just buy a box, and try them in your rifle. Also use a bullet trap to see how they preform.(wet newspaper, etc.)

Keith,

I guess my post wasn't clear. I've ordered several boxes of Hornady Superformance .300 Win Mag ammo factory loaded with their 165 grain GMX bullets to test for accuracy in my Ruger M77 Hawkeye.

The purpose of my post was to see if anybody had any experience actually using them. I want to know about accuracy and terminal bullet performance.

Regards,
Bill.

Perhaps you didn't notice that this site is chock full of folks who prefer to roll their own ammo. You might get a better response if you log onto Accuratefactorymadeammo.com.

Dave,
I handload. What's that got to do with my question? Didn't appreciate your smart-ass remarks or your phoney website. If you have nothing informative to contribute, please don't waste your time and mine.

Regards,
Bill.

Would you go to the glocktalk forum to ask about a Colt revolver?

Judging from the tons of replies, it seems your question has fallen on deaf ears.

But, once again, I'll do my best to bring this topic up to the top for more members to read. You're welcome.

Bill:

Wish I could help. Have not tried it or talked to anyone who has, but from the descriptions it sounds like the bees knees. It will be interesting to see if performance matches the advertizing.

As I recall a good article in this month's issue of Sports Afield by Diana Rupp using Hornady's 7mm Rem Mag .....and I have to tell you that years back I stopped reloading of my .270 because the long range performance of Hornady's Light Mag ammo was so good.

I spoke w/ Hornady this week. According to Gary(at Hornady) the superformance is actually handloaded by Hornady technicians and not line assembled--like their other ammo. Looks like it works for you Bill, nice shooting.

Sorry to bump but it appears that Hodgdon will be releasing the superperformance powder to reloaders in early 2012! I wonder how close it will be to the Hornady factory ammo? Maybe even better performance in the hands of handloaders?

Good stuff. I try nearly every new ammo out just for fun. This stuff shoots fine for me.

The .270 Winchester 130gr GMX Superformance didn't shoot worth a darn in any of my rifles. I had hoped it was going to do well in my Remmy Titanium but 2" groups are not very good. The Winchester XP3 130gr shot 3/4" groups though.

I used superformance on a 200 lb (not a very big) black bear a couple of years ago and was not impressed. The ammo was 180 gr in 300 win mag. The shot was 250 yds up hill entered on left side quartering towards front shoulder. It took three more shots to knock him down the hill. The bullet did a lot of damage but there was no exit and no bullet left to recover. After that I switched to 180 gr and 200 gr swift AFrames for my 300 with much better results. If you are looking for good terminal bullet performance I would elsewhere. Hornady does make nice shirt though. Ha ha. Paul

I used the 150gr SST 308 load in a Steyr I owned, and it was pushing 1/4" groups (.268").

I have only sighted in a Blaser K95 in 7x65R with the Hornady Superperformance 140 gr. GMX, they shot right at 1.1" @ 100 yds. I hope to use them in November on a deer hunt.
