New Portuguese record mirror carp
I have no connection with this but my crystal ball tells me that a new Portuguese record mirror carp was caught at 11am today (Saturday 16th feb 2013).

The fish weighed 49.5lbs & the trip was booked via www.tightlines-portugal.com.

The angler was Tom from carvoeiro on the algarve.

What a fantastic fish!

Well, well, well! The fish looks like he is, ... well,... out of water? Big Grin
The succesful angler, is he about to cry? Is he trying to say something? Roll Eyes

I suspect he's a probably little exhausted from cranking in a 50 pound fish. Nice fish, BTW.
This is why I don't take a lot of hunting pictures, as I usually look in much much worse shape by the time a picture would be appropriate.

OTOH, Chief Inspector Dreyfuss, is that you?

How old would a fish that size be?

I'm afraid I've no idea but perhaps someone else can shed some light on it?

I have no idea either, so here is a cut and paste:

Growing quickly and to moderately large sizes, the common carp is said to reach weights in the 80-pound range, although the average fish is considerably smaller. The all-tackle rod-and-reel record is 75 pounds, 11 ounces. The maximum life span is disputed but may be a half century; the average carp seldom exceeds 15 years of age.

Steve, do you have any details on the fishing tackle that was used, and about how long did it take to land? Those would be interesting to know.

Mark,

Sorry I don't but will try to find out for you.

The fish here fight helluva hard so I'd guess he had it on for a while & would further guess it was probably taken on a boilie of some kind.
