Julie and I were invited to PNG by a mate of mine. He has a boat and all the gear so we took a long flight over to join him and his family.

Best fun was intercepting huge shoals of yellow fin tuna and the odd dolrado. Julie caught a beauty.

Had a great time in quite remote waters.

Great stuff Andrew. I really enjoy fishing all over the world, nearly as much as hunting.

When I was in Brazil, a guy in camp and I came up with a new "Big 5." The Catfish Big 5.

Vundu
Piraiba
Wells
Mekong
Goonch

All 5 can exceed 200 pounds.

You say?

I know a very good area for giant vundu. We just need some bait.

Mekong down for me - if canned fishing in former mining pit in Bangkok counts

This would be so cool

Hi Andrew,
Where and how big do they get there? Caught some across from Mana pools with Troy, but smallish, 20-25#

Hi Mike,

One of the guys I met on the trip went to Taiwan last year. Caught the Mekong and a bunch of other stuff. Trip was cheap, they offer a two day side trip for those giant Mekong Rays as well, That's a definite, "Gotta do"

The Mekong was in a pond like you say but he still said it was a blast, fight like hell he said.

I have Vundu, Piraiba so far. The Goonch in India looks like a damn exotic trip.

The Wells, the Spanish guys that built my double rifle, fish for them and said they would put a trip together for them. Go see the LARM factory and catch 200# Wells Catfish.

Steve
