My ol' man's steelhead
We were on a goat hunt this year and this is what we did when weather gave us down time. This was NOT the biggest fish of the trip but just one of the better photos.

I perfer to fly fish for them but it gets harder to catch them as the season gets late. We were chucking spoons for this guys and were catching one after another. One thing I like about the spoon take, it's violent. Some times they almost rip the rod right out of your hand.

That fish weighs about 22lbs.

Up here with the locals it is a secret spoon. There is a brand sold up here that looks almost the same(Iron Heads) but side by side on the same hole these lures can't be beat.

I have to order them from Wash state. Never see them on the shelves up here at all. It's the guides who let me in on these. Since your American, I'll share.

They're called "stilly spoons" made by Nor Tac.

Brass color seems to work the best but the sterling silver do pretty good too. If the water has any color to it, I'll go with the silver. Hammered brass in crystal clear water.

The Coho love em too.

Thanks boilerroom,

I have always used vibrax spinners whenever I use lures for salmon (except King salmon). Havent used spoons much at all.

I would trade a life time supply of Stilly Spoons for one steelhead trip with the XGirls!

Cool site!

I miss spelled the company name.
