My husband and I were fishing in Panama at the Tropic Star Lodge, Pinas Bay (June 30-July 7th. This was the first time either of us had fished salt water. We do a lot of freshwater fishing for bass and trout, so this was a whole new experience.

We landed 15 sailfish (all released), numerous dorado, red snapper, some fish called a kubera, and yellow fin tuna.

The excitement really hapened when on two occassions big black marlin hit our baits but unfortunately were never hooked. We had a striped marlin and another black follow the baits.

My previous biggest fish was a 5 pound 4 ounce largemouth bass. Catching these ocean fish was quite a work out.

Kathi,
Could be Cubera Snapper you caught? They are BIG snappers with big k-nine teeth. You two should come down and fish the Gulf with us. We spend the night out on the ocean and catch some big Kings, black and red Snapper, Grouper, Tuna, Cobia and Wahoo sometimes plus a lot of other fish. My wife usually out catches the men Smiler Just came back two days ago. My best Snapper was 10 pounds. We go every spring and fall. David
