Caught a Big Blue Marlin
We caught and really big Marlin about 35 miles off of Cape Lookout on Sunday. Hard to really say how big she was because we released her. I am thinking over 600lb. This fish would win you some money if caught during one of the tournaments.

Hemingway would have been proud.

Are the females, like sharks, bigger than males?

Are they worth eating at that size?

I have had what is marketed as swordfish before in many resteraunts and never found that it was as good as the price it had fetched.

Compared to halibut it sucks!

Beautiful fish!

We hooked into a nice one in Cancun one year at the end of our 8hr fishing trip...Got to see it jump a few times and it was breathtaking. Adding to the excitement was the captain and crew yelling with excitement when they knew it was near our baits and then again when it took and ran

LHeym500,

Yes, females are bigger

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

BWW,

Not really. Not even to think about the amount of accumulated mercury

Swordfish and marlin are markedly different. Swordfish has a much whiter meat and milder flavor. Marlin is darker and more fishy. Even smoked, it leaves a lot to be desired. The larger fish( greater than about 350 lbs) are always females.

I love sword fish steaks. However, I have never had halibut.

Thank you for the info on the size.

It is like $15 a pound at our Costco.

To me it is the finest eating ocean fish.

Fresh halibut in Alaska is really remarkable.

Best fish to eat is Grouper or Trigger fish. I eat fish for either lunch or dinner every day this time of year. Eating fresh yellowfin that I caught tonight for dinner.

Trigger fish is really good. Unfortunately on the Gulf coast in our area, the season is only a month, limited to one/day and a 15”size minimum- and it’s out until next year!

Capt, great catch and release! As far as eating goes, one of my newer favorites is hogfish. Not very common or available outside of southern Florida or the Keys. Very light and flaky. In my opinion, better than the groupers or snappers commonly available. Don't even think of deep frying it!

You mean there is another way to cook fish other than frying?? Just kidding, I loved grilled, too

Did you fight him in the Chair like Hemingway used in the 30-40s?

Do people still do that?

I can remember Marlin, not sailfish, Marlin Tournaments on ESPN in the mid 90s.

Wow! What a great fish! As much as I love eating them--marlin belly is one of my favorites--I definitely would have released that beauty.
