Boom, if you can get the .510 out of that case, we have a winner!
Call it the .500 Express, and it will conquer the world!

Don't need that as the case is nearly straight
and the taper inside the case due to the brass
getting thicker as it goes to the base, actually makes the diameter same as or smaller
than at the mouth.Like the cases just made
the brass a half inch dowm is .002 thicker,
and id is .002 smaller.I never seen any straight case where the maker could make the
last 3/4 inch parallel, with same thickness,
from the mouth 3/4 inch back.Ed

the 510 can be done but the cheap brass is no longer there...if you dont mind expensive brass ($2.25 a piece) or more forming time. it can be done but that would be outside one aspect of the philosophy of the project but you could still get the cheaper gun and the same bolt and 3 down.

qual cart would want its name on a more classy named cart i am sure since part of the deal is for him to sell it to the public so we dont have to pay for the expensive tooling.

500 max is simple and no b.s. hype...it will be the most bad ass thing you can do on that case.

you could call it the 500 death ray rhino smasher pimp slap owned lion tammer manum express and it would not be hype

the belted rimless nitro express is pretty much what a 500 a2 is... belted rimless nitro express i think implies that you turned off the rim and put an extractor grove on the original case...with this max design you can get 3 down in your rum but opening the bolt that big for the a2 or 500 nitro i think would give you trouble on that gun.

For right now it will be a .500
bullet diameter. That gives enough taper
to the sides for good extraction.
If Quality Cartridge, as Boom related, can
make the base a little bigger on the
RUM brass(it measures .546" now)then it
could be used to make .505 or .510.
But I think with all the .500 bullets out
there it may be a mute point. I see .500
caliber Hornadys I think, 500 gr, selling
for 75 cents each, and good for deer, hogs,
target, water jugs, etc.Ed

yes as ed has posted the .500 is the easiest and cheapest to do right now since no custom brass run s needed yet. the 505 and 510 can be done today but it is a matter of $$$ for the brass...the design will work but right now gixxer will have the first .500" hog exploder...it will be a scaled up version of varnmiting...lol instead of prarie dogs...swamp hogs. the 400 grain 500's will work as fragibles at i figure over 2600 fps.

other pigs in florida will tell of the horror stories of the man named gixxer and his death stick.

the animal instincts of the pigs i am sure are starting to kick in...animals always seem to know when disaster is comming so if the florida hogs are a bit skiddish and the hair on their backs are starting to stand up...they know that gixxer and the stick of death is comming.

well if someone wants to do the 510 max and have a custom small run of brass to get the gun up and going to do load development and have fun with it ed will do it but the cases will be about $3 a piece. the brass lasts a long time since there is no shoulder and it is pretty straight. so if you want to do the barrel swap thing on a rum or h+h gun...its doable. the brass will end up costing about the same as regular brass since you will get more firings per case.

I delivered the 500 MAX/RUM reamer
print and couple cases to Manson today.
interesting thought, the 500 bullets we
are using goes with S&W 500, caliber wise,
a variety of weights and light to heavy
jackets. S&W now owns TC, so maybe our
500 RUM will catch as there is a bunch of
500 S&W guys out there. Maybe they'd sell
pistol and Encore pairs.Ed

Hey Jeffe I thought the 2 bore was Satan's mule?!? But for real how could they put out a 416 that weighed less than 10lb (maybe I am off, I thought most rifles 416 and up were around 10lb) and expect most folks to enjoy it? Kinda like one of those Rossi single actions in 20ga. A co worker in AK got one for his kid, good thing he shot it before his kid shot it!! So he says... Everybody's tolerance to recoil is different for sure. Ask my Dad, it took him a year to get up the nerve to shoot my 375.

lol...
i will take your word for it but the recoil at classic velocity did not seem that much more than the faster 416 rigby

maybe add a few pounds and get a non flex stock

An interesting option...
if you had a win mag length action and you did not mind being limited to the use of flat nose pistol bullets you could do the 500 MAX and should be able to still get decent performance.

The longer actions will be a lot more versatile and powerful obviously

Seems there will be a slew of new wildcats based on the .500 bullet like the 500 MAX...

Seems the TSA is not allowing ammo to go on planes over .500

I am sure bulletmakers will catch up but until then the 500 MAX is just under the limit.

TSA compliant...the 500 MAX

Perspective...

here is a 7 Mag and 500 MAX's with a flat nose hornady and a barnes xpb.

all can be shot out of a 7 mag size action but the spitzer and longer rifle bullets would need to be single fed or need the longer action to be mag fed.

pretty interesting to get either 7 mag or 500 nitro equivelent power out of a common 7 mag with minimal smithing.

Has anyone done a .458 RUM? I would think that would be more economical with cheap 300 grain Remingtons, and 405 Remingtons. 300 grainers at 3000 fps? They would only be good as a varmint bullet though, as they pretty much explode much past 2000 fps.
