with the ability to push them to over 4000 with the .223 case ya got to wonder if the 250 case is a tad much.

Have a look at the 7.62 X 39 case and the (if you can find them) .25 remington case.

To your question on the 20-250...no...you're the first to bring it up...sorry...no help here.

You might want to give Walt Berger a call get his # from Berger bullets he was telling me about the 20x250 using the heavier Berger 50gr bullets alot seem to think the case has the right capacity for those heavier bullets over the 204 case. Well good luck.

check out saubier.com. small caliber board with some pretty cool wildcats. The 20-250 has been done, not sure what the results have been, but seems a natural for the 50 grain bergers and a ridiculous trajectory.

So do you buy barrels 6 at a time, and have them all headspaced and ready to go on the reciever?
Throat errosion must be impressive with 46 grains of powder and a MZ of 4587.

The results on varmints and the resulting grin might make it worth it though. Wink

I'm having a dozen shipped in for the spring. Roll Eyes bewildered Roll Eyes
If you keep the barrel cool, you'll be suprised how long they will last.

Thanks for the link. If you go to Keven Weaver's sight(Google it) you'll find he's working on a 20-220 swiftAI Eeker, But I think that might be a little much.

Rusty,
When we play with hotrods, some things are par for the course. I had a 20BR built a few years back. When I asked my gunsmith about barrel life, he said, "No biggie. When you burn up the barrel, just put another one on!"

Smiler It was tounge-in-cheek guys. Believe me, I understand what goes on in hot rod guns. I did a lot of high volume shooting as tests just to see what, when and where barrels burn up. I could tell you things we did to guns that would make a "gun-nut" cry.

I shoot with a fellow that had an AI 220 Swift back in the 70's. He got 500-600 shots per barrel. He would order 6 barrels at a wack and pre-fit and headspace them in his machine shop. When accuracy went south, he'd spin one off and drop in the next barrel.

I'd tell you how fast he was pushing 55 grain bullets... but I didn't believe him either. Wink

Blacktail, Ive been to that site a lot latley, I keep have a reoccuring fantacy of a 20VarTarg in a 26" Encore. Damn, here it comes agian. lol

I think that the 20-250 is a little much. But you may find this article interesting if you haven't read it. You might want to pay close attention to the part on 20 BR. That has my interest for sure.

I just picked up and started loading for a .204 Ruger, but if I were going to build something today I beleive I'd walk out the door with a .20 VarTarg myself. It seems to have all the qualities that I would need for a walking varmit rifle. BT53
