Data for 8mm/06 with Alliant R22
Can anyone help me out with some data for Alliant R22 and 200 gr. Nosler or Sierra in the 8mm/08 or 8mm/06 AI?

Thanks

I'm thinking RL22 is a tad slow for 8mm06. Nosler #8 says max load of 56.5 of RL19/200gr is slightly compressed, so RL22 probably wont get very good speed. Not sure about the Ackley but improvement doesn't really add all that much space in anything above 30 cal, 06 cases.

Depending on the particular powder lots, I'd imagine starting at 53 or 54gr of RL22 & increasing by 1/2 gr at a time might be a plan with the 200s. Either you'll get pressure or run out of case capacity. If it were mine, I'd start with about 51 or 52gr of a 4350 & see what happens. W760 or AA2700 might work too.

I have a 338-06 Ackley & the 4350s are the best I've found in it so far with 200/210s. I've gotten slightly more speed with RL17 but a short cut 4350 (I'm still using an old lot of Scot 4351) is the cat's ass for speed & accuracy with the 200/210s in my rifle.

as i said in the other thread, i'd start with 3006 loads and work up .. 200gr and rel22 is likely to give you highest vels, as it shines in the '06 for heavy bullets

Is it just me, or has a post been deleted from this thread ?.....I'm sure I read something about a compressed load getting 2900 fps.... Confused

I've tried IMR 4350 and H414 with fairly good results, I haven't cronoed anything yet.

I'm trying NOT to use up all my supply of powder and primers as I don't know if I will ever be able to replace them !!! Thus the request for results using RL 22 !

My 8mm/06 Ackley started life as a 8x60 Brono mod. 21 small ring Mauser, then rechambered to a 8mm/06, then to a 8mm-06 Ackley..Apparantly I used the 8x57 loads in a reloading book to max, then added 5% to the powder charge for the 8mm-06, then another 5% to the 8mm-06 Ackley, and that gave good starting loads...You can go up 1/2 gr. at a time from there to tweek your load. Thats how I did it flying by the seat of my pants and load data was scarce at the time and probably still is

I fireformed a couple of hundred 8mm/06s to the Ackley, but the 8mm-06 is a fine deer and elk load with 160 TTSX bullets, I also used the 180 Nosler Bal tips and the 200 gr. accubond or partition. H414 was my powder of choice. My rifle has a 30-06 lenth magazine and chamber to match so I seat my bullets out quite a ways, most Mausers have long throats, be sure yours does..Keep in mind that theh laoding books do a good Mauser 8x57 or 7x57 an injustice as they quote max loads based on Mauser 95, 96, and those old remington single shot 7x57, all weak actions by comparison..
