Just found a set of these dies from RCBS. They were cheap, and I like the parent case. I found no info on the web. The "K" is from Lylse Kilbourn of 22K Hornet fame. I'm hoping that RCBS has the cartridge dimensions, as I would like to pursue this further. Anyone here that can help me on this one? Perhaps something written in a publication of some sort. Thanks in advance.

BTW, the only thing on the top of each die is:
RCBS
224K Krag

There were several versions of the 22 Krag and 22/303B back in the 1930s and 1940s. Perhaps RCBS can give you the dimensions of the dies you have or maybe you can make a chamber cast of the sizer. The book TWENTY-TWO CALIBER VARMINT RIFLES by Charles Landis dicussed some of them and had a little bit of loading data. The book was reprinted by Wolfe Publishing Co. of Prescott, AZ in 1991 and they may still have copies available. Wolfe is the publisher of RIFLE and HANDLOADER magazines. You could also try STEVES.

He is on this forum from time to time and may have some load data depending on which cartridge you are talking about. Good Luck.

Here is a link to data on the 25 Ackley Krag. http://www.reloadbench.com/cartridges/w25ackkrag.html

It indicates a 50 gr powder capacity. While this is a lot for a .224" bore case life would be better with lighter loads anyway.

I looked in Wolffes "Wildcat Cartridges" and the old Ideal handbook and found no reference to a 224 Kilbourn. If the K version is a short Krag it would be even better.

While "Twenty Two Caliber Varmint Rifles" has an entire chapter on the Kilbourn cartridges there is no mention of a .224 Krag.

The European Cartridge Research Association (ECRA) lists 51 cartridges based on the Krag case, but not any modifications made by Kilbourne. If you make a cast of the sizer die and take the measurements, I'd be interested in seeing them.
What is the date of the die set? (It's the single letter on the die near the caliber.) A=1950 and progresses through Z=1976. Then starts over again with A=1977, etc.
Regards,
Ed
