375H&H, 411 Ryan, 30-06


400 gr bullet @ 2100 fps, 5+1 magazine capacity in my rifle and it should weigh in at around 8 1/2 lbs when I'm done with it.

240 Wby base?

There was a 416 variant done by John Barsness a few years ago. Neat little cartridge. Either bullet dia is a "modern" 405 win.

Yeah 240 Weatherby (or 400/375) case.

We talked about necking the 240 Wby case to 411 before but eventually Bent Fossdal went all the way up to .423" over the 416 for the 425 Fossdal.
My next wildcat I think will be the 400 Karamojo (375 HH necked up to 411 without any other changes.

I think QualCart offers brass as well. Stretching a 240 is pretty extreme, and 400/375 is expensive

Just checked, QC does not offer 411 Ryan. However 425 Fossdal is in stock, and its the sane basic case. Just wrong head stamp

Properly head stamped brass was available from Bertram, not sure if it still is though.

There is a short mention of a longer cased 411 on the webpage, but that page is very out of date and has tons of "coming soon" links. The longer case would easily hit 2150/400gr with less pressure. It is a very interesting prospect, but with 400 W basic brass available, hard to choose it over the whelen

My rifle is chambered for the longer cartridge. Case length is 2.625. I'd like to get 2300 fps with 350gr A-Frames.

According to my calculations, this cartridge, with 350 grain A-Frames, should meet kinetic energy requirements for dangerous game in Africa as well as for the Libby Montana big bore shoot.

I used to shoot a 411 KDF....a 458 Win Mag necked down.

Ive always wondered what most of these wildcats had over a std .416 Rem or Rigby..To me a wildcat should have something over what's available at Walmart.

The advantage of the .411 Ryan/ .411 Hawk/ 400 Whelen is the ability to use a standard action with a standard 30-06 length magazine. My .411 Ryan holds 5 rounds in the magazine. Six 350 grain A-Frames @ 2300 fps out of a fast handling rifle, thats the advantage over whats available at Walmart.

The German firm RWS released the 10,3x68RWS last year, it is based on the 338 Winchester (they kind of confused the world initially by calling x68 as most folks thought it was a 8x68s necked down).

The guy that developed it is a Swiss guy that works for RWS. In the Swiss Canton of Graubünden there is a requirement to hunt with a cartridge above 10.3. And while most folks use the old 10,3x60R or 450/400 2 and half inch round, a lot of guys are longing for more power.

Not sure how much difference there is between the .411-.413 bullets in .405 WCF and the .413 bullets in the 10,3x60R and 10,3x68 RWS.
