read up on the 411hawk (save the 411 has a better perf envelope with it's bullets)... about the same thing... as the 350 remmag is "just" a 30-06 case in capacity.

the 416 aagard (376 steyr) is a larger case in the same format

the 416 jamison (wsm) is larger still

and the 416 AR is huge in comparison.

In short, the 416x350remmag is generally regarded as useless, in that it can't drive the normal weight for caliber bullets fast enough to have any reasonable range to have reliable expansion on normal bullets.

the 411 hawk, in that case capacity, at least will open bullets on impact.

CTOW would not be a bad buy

Wildcat Cartridges has a good article on the subject. Its on page 525 and they call it 10.6x51 for reasons unknown.

Search your back issues of Rifle or Handloader magazine for Ken Waters development of the 416 Express, a 416x350RM that essentially duplicates 405 Winchester performance.

IMHO the case is too small for the available bullets, and anything you'd hunt with a 416 deserves the size and especially weight of a fullsize 40 cal rifle.

Now a 411 to take advantage of the cast bullets and 40 cal pistol bullets might be interesting.

I checked the 411 Hawk site, they show the 325NF 2430fps, 350Aframe2350,400HawkRN2160fps
I was considering the 330HV GSCustom for the 416/350mag. It has BC of .545 and same length as the 370gnNF(1.44") In comparison a325NF is 1.28,340WL 1.20,410WL 1.33, 450WL 1.41".

Now if I can launch that little HV swine at 2320fps, its down range figures would be:

Muzzle: 2320/3950
100yd: 2200/3570
200yd: 2080/3160.

Doesnt sound too bad for bear/moose,heavy plainsgame at reasonable ranges.

Load length would be 3.0" in the 3.08"magbox of the SAM70.
I know its long length chews into powder space somewhat, but they also typically launch at higher velocity anyway over normal bullets, so it may balance back up. For example if the Hawk411 launches 400gn/2160 325NF/2430,then the 330hv should get 2250?(i state 2250 cause the HV is 0.17" longer than the 325NF,taking up powderspace)...+plus the velocity advantage of the HV principle around 50fps, maybe more....so not unreasonably..2300-2340?

GScustoms seem to still exhibit good expansion at velocities around the 2080 mark.

Woodjack, thanks for confirming, it seems pretty anemic. Of course the better round is the 416 jamison/wsm in that 3" package... and the 416 aagard for better feeding... and BOTH have at least 10 grains more capacity.

and the 416 aagard will offer an additional (could) round in the mag.

Check with J.D. Jones at SSK Industries. He makes an Encore in what he calls the .41Whammy which is the .350Remington Magnum necked to .411. Gary Reeder has a cartridge called the .416GNR which is the .348Winchester necked to .416.
