I returned home recently only to repack and head to NM for Antelope. Will try and get more pics as soon as my clients get me their CDs. Enjoy, David

Head of the Clan no more. Used the .223 to take this one from the top of a tall cliff overlooking his subjects. Baboons can be quite clever, and sometimes it seems like you'll never get a shot. Other times you see them all day and have many opportunities. This was one of the heaviest males I've taken, and I'm always looking for them.

I used high winds to help me get within 40 yards of this porker. Used the old reliable Remington Core Lokt 165 grain in .280 Remington. He didn't go more than 20 yards.

High winds caused me to take my time and sort out this shot at 259 yards. It worked out with a shoulder shot. 160 grain Nosler Accubonds in .280 did the trick on this Red Hartebeest. This one will be a skull mount and flat rug.

My second Blue Wildebeest with a spread of just under 30 inches (29.75"). High winds every day created tough shooting conditions on the plains, so some thought was given before the shot. Not a very old bull to have such a spread and good bases. I did not attempt to score any of my trophies but this would score well. Add to the skull mounts and flat skins.

My quest for a 30 inch Waterbuck satisfied, we then hunted a better bull but he gave us the slip twice on the last day. This one fell to the 160 grain Accubond from my .280 Weatherby. They are tough animals. Shoulder mount for this bull.

Dennis Harris mounted this bull for me:

My highlight was taking 6 Porcupines and 4 Spring Hares one night in our alfalfa fields. Now I have enough quills to finish a project I've waited 4 years to complete.
Good hunting,
David

I'm jealous. I've made seven trips across the pond and never had an opportunity to shoot a baboon like that. I've always wanted to get one of those big boys.

Thanks guys. Tom: that baboon was a stud. He was much heavier than previous males, and I've been fortunate to take several good ones.
Wendell: yes, I took the Mark V again but the baboon was with the .223rem. I believe I'll take the M-77 .280 next time. It's accuracy at extreme ranges is excellent. Putting a Millett tach scope on the .223. I'm anxious to see what it will do. As soon as I can go by and pick up some CD's, I'll have over 1,000 pics to sort through and will try and post the best pics my clients took.
Cheers,
David

Thanks again for the kind words. Finally, after much prodding, I just received one email containing the following pics. Nothing like what he has on CD but these will do for now. The following were taken with a client of mine in the Eastern Cape during our August hunt. He used a Remington model 700 in 7 mag pushing Remington 150 grain Core Lokts (still a good bullet). The only side bar was the Lynx: he used one of our shotguns. He doesn't do "reports" nor visit web forums so I can only say he's ready to return next year with friends. His opinion on the hunting, food, accommodations and PH was excellent. He did really well for his first trip to Africa. Several of his trophies were exceptional. The only one I measured was his Blesbok. It went 17 inches, but check out his Black Wildebeest. My other client only made hard copies of his trophies. Hopefully I'll get his card and post his soon.
Cheers,
David

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Better late than never; another of my good friends joined us on this hunt and for a first time African Hunter, he did very well. He used a Weatherby .300 mag with 180 grain TB Bear Claw's.
Warthog was not on his mind when then boar walked a 100 yards below his position. Nice heavy old tusker.

Was quite windy on the open plains that day but he got a fine stallion.

Stronger wind that afternoon but it all worked out on this nice Red Hartebeest.

Well polished Cape Kudu was one of his favorite trophies.

Nice Impala, picked him out of a group of 5 rams.

My friend said this was a tough hunt. Spent most of the day going through rough country with thick thorn bush and cacti. I know the feeling. Was really rough on him as he had major surgery back in February.

Another great bull Wildebeest. Heavy mass and wide! He was really happy to get one this big.

Trying to pick out a decent Blesbok out of a huge herd was quite a job. My friend mentioned finally getting a 300 yard shot when this ram separated from the herd of about 100.

We took the number 1 Black Wildebeest off this ranch several years ago and I personally took one that if I ever get around to having it officially scored by a master scorer, will most likely make the top 5, so we wanted my friend to get a good bull. I think he did well.

My friends only regret; he didn't plan on hunting a Waterbuck. Not realizing how large they are, he was miffed after seeing the bull I shot. Next time he wants one along with a Bushbuck and a few other species. What made this hunt special for both of us; he was recovering from losing a kidney to cancer. He's still fighting but on the winning side. He remains positive each day and we'll be fishing offshore again very soon. Tough guy and I'm proud to call him friend. Smiler
