Seems to be typical of bureaucrats/politicians these days. Probably always; we're simply able to discover their duplicity more easily. The bigger problem, of course, is motivating the citizenry to do something about it.

In our country, had Trump not been elected, we would have gone along fat, dumb and happy with little knowledge of how our bureaucracy/politicians had turned our institutions against us, weaponizing the very agencies charged with protecting our rights.

I hope New Zealand will get through this and replace the PM with a person respectful of its citizens' rights and traditions. England voted to leave the EU and we've seen just how well its politicians have followed that expression of the people's will.

The major incidents here that sparked the withdrawal of some types of firearm were all flagged to the police by members of the public prior to them happening
lt would seem that in some instances we were being set up to fail, so allowing the media (supported by the politicians and police) to whip up hysteria against legal gun ownership

l fear that leaving the EU will only allow our MPs to do even worse damage to our community and the countryside when we no longer have the stronger european shooting clubs helping is in the EU parliament.
Every single political party is currently either against legal gun ownership or country persuits.

Police may have made a mistake. If that document is true and accurate, it is BIG worry.

But why is that guy blaming the PM?

I know that politics can be very divisive. So divisive that basic facts, truth and human decency seem to be lost.

Because the PM knows this, and has for some time.
The fact he got a licence and guns at all was because of a systemic breakdown in police procedure that saw a person with a worrying travel history come to NZ, get a full licence in 5 weeks, when a renewal for us residents can take 6 months. And do so without proper background checks or proper checks on his referees.
its all been known about since very early on and its the reason these laws are being pushed through before the Royal commission report is due. Its not about firearms safety. Its about political bias and belief systems. Hell the Muslim womens council came out a few days ago and told them not to link this law with the terror attacks, as it has nothing to do with them.

IF you guys had a proper government you
wouldn't need to go thru all this bullshit
in the first place.

A license just to own a gun? My ass!

Good luck keeping what you have.

It's an endless war.

And it gets even better....
Just now the firearms community has found out that the database handling the buyback, with 70,000 odd licence holder details has a breach and firearms details and bank account numbers were available for the world to see.
This after our community warned the Govt it could happen and that police were not up to standard on this.

This would be funny if it wasn't such a monumental cluserfuck.

George - you dont live here , therefore you dont understand how our system should work. We are not the US and the US is not us.

But currently our Police are taking advantage of the free hand the government has given them in introducing ever-more restrictive and draconian legislation , much of which is being made Law by a thing called Order In Council , which effectively means they can do whatever they want.

The data breach will mean that any chance of gun owners complying with a register just went out the window.
