New video released seems to show an object/critter impact the P63 before it spiraled down into the B17.

If that really was some homicidally careless idiot's drone ....

Hopefully, the NTSB's investigation will determine if this was a causal element.

There is a YouTube out that discusses the NTSB initial findings. It pins the accident on the Aur Boss calling aircraft to change planned fly by on the 500 ft vs 1000ft show line. This change and turns causes blind spots where the two collide!!
It doesn't mention this object at all??

This is the only reasonable answer. The MSN article says nothing. No way was it caused by a suspected drone. It was clearly a very poorly run show by the Air Boss. And, frankly, if the AirCobra lost sight of the B-17, he should have pitched out. Crap show all around and caused needless death and destruction.
