Lotof this stuff happened in the early days of aviation. Seems they even fixed the skin on zeppelins in flight.

It was one hell of a dangerous stunt and it took some serious strength, agility, skill and a huge pair of iron clad lady balls! And it was an act designed and choreographed to produce, drama, chills, thrills and attract paying crowds.
Barnstorming was not an easy, safe or secure way to make a living!
