I did Cappacallie in Bulgaria during the calling period ( May) back in 2017.

Rate it as one of the best hunts I’ve done in Europe!

Talk to Ramsey Russell at Getducks.com. I went with a group of his to Russia. 4 hunters, 8 Cappercailie and 4 black grouse. Doing the Russian two step early dawn was one of the most exciting hunting I have ever done. The hunting is about 4 hours a North of St. Petersburg.

Ross, Check out Nordic Footprints / Samuel. Been in business a long time and runs a good operation. Dogs in autumn or skis in winter. Wonderful food too! We hunted with them last year - here is the report. Great hunt. Cheers

Really depends what you are looking for.
You could go to Austria in the Spring, which would be a cool hunt but the most expensive option.
Then you could hunt the two in Belarus or Russia in the Spring.
Scandinavia is fall hunts only, which is fun but not the whole experience.

If you are keen, I am happy to set either option up for you.

There are probably half a dozen outfitters in Sweden, about 30 in Russia, a couple in Latvia and Lithuania, Bulgaria, and a few in Austria.

I have seen blackcock and hazel hens and ptarmigan offered in Austria, but I don't remember seeing capercaillie offered. I know they still do it, but I think it is very specialized and most birds are taken by those that own the revier.

Many families have had the same reviers tied up for a long time.

Oh crap I just remembered one. He might have auerhahns on his abschuss plan.

He is kind of secretive, so send me a PM and I'll send you his contact details.

I have his pricelist on my desk at work, I can look on Monday.

Like Wisent, bears and quite a few other species I don't think they are on the German legal game list in Bavaria or Baden Wurttenburg.

I think the Austrians hunt them in the Spring, I know they hunt blackgrouse in the spring, not sure about hazelhens or ptarmigan.

Maybe you can hunt them in Slovenia or Croatia as well. I can't remember.
