Have been looking at a nice 6 figure job in Dubai with the GCAA (civil aviation authority) and just curious about the tax implications or relief for ex-patriates?

I don't know how it is now but in the early 70s, we were doing ductwork assembly in the UAE. The law then was that we had to stay over there for 18 months to get our pay duty free, otherwise pay taxes upon reentry. At $75K every 6 months, one could afford to stay in place. There is good money to be made but make sure of the loopholes in your tax obligations. That's the real potential killer. (There was a kicker that one could come home for an emergency but could only stay like a week or something like that, I don't recall the details.)

Unless it’s changed recently you have to be out of country 330 days.

A while back I know they used to send an official to the embassy to assess taxes of Americans working here.

Heaven knows how many tax laws change every year stateside, I suppose by that inference that my info from the early 70s is really outdated. That's why I use a CPA. It's worth the money to have someone that knows the rules to be in your corner.

One may want to consider the tax implications if they live in one of the greedy states also,.
I think NC nailed it when he said it is worth it to pay an expert for their tax and legal advice.
