The 800 designates the plaque is silver...just like on silver jewellry!
Great knives, i prefer the earlier version to yours above...i.e. the 3 liner 959, they were slimmer in profile, same functions, 1 less brass liner, as originally designed by Mr Frevet!

My 959 is about an '82 or '83.

She may be a bit chubby...... but I like her fine! Wink

If the number was 100 that would denote pure silver, hence the 800 means 80% silver.Generally alloyed with nickel.

The knife in the pic isnt one of mine, its a late model...i.e 1975 onwards, you can tell from the inscription on the blade. It also designates it as a 4 brass liner version. If someone wants to forward me their email address id be happy to post them a pic if they can host for the forum members to see...sorry im not that techy. I have a nice pic i took the other day of my 959, 953 and 941...all in a nice cedar box.
