Yes sir stem to stern from scratch.

Here's some more photos.

It took me about 3 month in between working on guns. A good friend of mine MS Tim Potier made me the twist pattern billet that I made the guard from.

I used the same cheapo 4x36" shopmaster belt sander that I do recoil pads on to grind the blade.

I made the guard with a German milling machine (a file) Big Grin

Ive been thinking about one of those no weld grinders. The grinder part isn't so bad, but the motor and the contact wheels will kill you!!!

I'm not sure that I understand. Unless you're referring to the price of those items & I agree with that. The wheels are pricy.

Here's a work in progress made on that belt sander. Has a 8" blade including the ricasso.
The guard & prommel are twist pattern damascus that hasn't been blued yet.

Doug, really fine work. I am quite taken with your file work on that twist billet you turned into the guard.
I've made a few rather sad-looking knives using the heat-red--and-mash-with-hammer method using old Nicholson files, but would love to try stock removal some day. You sure have it down!

Thanks for the kind words Bill. The MAIN thing to always remember when useing the stock removal method is that you can always take off a little more but you can't put any back. Big Grin

That is a nice looking knife.

But when I see that picture of that BIG knife, and that little gun I think of the following...

And this is in jest...

First, IF I thought I needed a knife THAT BIG, then I would want a bigger gun as well... Big Grin

Second, IF I had a BIGGER GUN BOOM I MIGHT NOT NEED A KNIFE THAT BIG. Big Grin

THIRD, truth is, the BEST plan, is to have a BIG GUN, AND A BIG KNIFE.. dancing

That way you have ALL bases covered. tu2
