Moving out off the city to our new cattle ranch. It is time for some premium steak knives. We have the Laguiole. They look nice but are crappy tools. Ready made or custom, what is the best to be had?

Serrrated or plain edge? Rada makes a nice steak knife in the serrated variety for a fair price. I wouldn't pay more for a serrated knife.

You will not find serrated in a premium or custom steak knife set.

Shun makes some top end knives for the kitchen and table.

For custom, Salter makes some beautiful table knives.

Neither of these options is cheap. Neither is dishwasher safe either.

Look at the Chicago Cutlery Insignia series. They are decent knives at a good price.
