Anyone like Snakewood? This is the first knife I have handled with it. After working with it, I tend to believe Snakewood is about equal to Desert Ironwood in terms of hardness, density, and durability. Pattern is my Semi-Skinner, blade is O1.

Another view with my latest acquisition- a Remington #4 Take-down Rolling Block in 22LR

Thanks for looking,

Lee

I like it . . . and a very fitting name for the look of the wood too.

Very beautiful knife, Lee!
I've lived a sheltered life but this is the first time I've seen snake wood. Very nice stuff!

Some day I might get to share a beer and a backstrap steak with GWB!

Trying to post an image of a snakewood handled knife I finished a few weeks ago. Handle is a little dark because I soaked it in teak oil, but the photo doesn't show as much contrast as it actually has. Now let's see if the post works...

Yes, that's elephant hide lined with textured leather of about the same color. The extra layer adds stiffness. I also use buffalo hide which is more uniform and a little stiffer - doesn't quite seem to have the character that the elephant does though...

Good hunting,

I sent a piece of snakewood to mr ingram one time and had several knives made. he used the wood for the scales. they were all fine looking knives and the people I gave them to really liked them.

That would be pretty fine looking wood as grips for my old K-38.
