Loveless style knives?
What do you guys think?

I currently have 3 of these and I am really enjoying them.

I own a couple of Doziers, and while I didn't really care for some aspects of the Doziers (non-stainless steel) I loved the way they handled.

Here are some other options I want to try.

https://www.berettausa.com/en-...drop-point/jk200a02/ Cheap Beretta made in Japan $80

https://agrussell.com/knife/A-...nt-Hunter--RU-J123CO AG Russell made in Japan $235

https://www.arizonacustomknives.com/products/1026803/ Like this one, but think it is roughly finished

https://www.knivesshipfree.com...igertail-maple-burl/ Ordered one of these but not this color.

https://www.knivesshipfree.com...chute-knife-cpm-154/ Also like the chute knife, but I have yet to pick one out.

There are a number of custom makers that will make a Loveless reproduction. They can make that in a finish that is the equal of a Loveless at a tenth of the price. So unless you are a collector or want a “chick” on the side of the blade, well...

I’m with you in reference to Dozier knives. Nice knifes, but D2 will stain or even rust. The model I have is I believe called a Yukon Skinner. It has a toothy edge that is an unbelievable cutter, but sometimes it’s a pain if I’m in a remote area and concerned about how I’m going to get an elk out, to make certain the knife is clean. I only use it for skinning back at camp for hanging animals.

Loveless still has a current website listing knives for $2000.

Most of the 2nd hand Loveless knives are $6500.

Eh, that really isn't something I can see doing. Even if you added a couple of zeros to my annual salary I don't see the attraction.

I just really like the knives.

I need to shape the Olt knives to fit my hand. They are slab sided, even though they are the same dimmensional size as a Loveless.

Loveless knives have hips like a woman.

Everybody to each their own, but I don’t care for Loveless style knives. As you said, they are too slab sided. I like more of an arc in the handle, but more importantly, they are just too thick. I suppose if you just have one blade that they would be hell for durable, but I find a thinner blade is much better cutter

What a lot of Loveless collectors don't realize is that Bob hired other builders to make "his" knives !

Kuzan Oda was one of them ! He is now a Japanese sword maker and a national "treasure"

BWW,

I agree, the Loveless Dropped Point Hunter is the epitome of a hunting knife. This and a few other Loveless styled knives, like a Nessmuk Skinner, the only ones I collect. Recall this thread where we discussed James Sponaugle:

James Sponaugle, Excellent and Underappreciated knifemaker

Email James and tell him you want a Loveless Dropped Hunter or the Nessmuk, pick your options and he will have you an incredibly well-made knife in short order at a very reasonable price. Every knife I have purchased from him is impeccable. He obtained actual scaled drawings from Loveless on most of his knives and makes them true to the form of the master.

Good luck,
Paul

Beretta makes a Loveless Hunter for $100 retail. The prices of custom knives are for collector items, not tools. I buy wholesale and sell high quality factory knives at a discount.

my Loveless style knife 154 CM drop point hunter. This knife spent 5 years in a hay field in central Minnesota after I lost it. Had to have the beautiful stag handle replaced with Green Micarta.
