.375 Whelen/.375-06 ballistics?
Hey all, been doing some bench racing of various wildcats and have found the 375 Whelen kinda interesting. Particularly since it offers both premium bullets for the H&H, and relatively cheap flat points designed for the .375 Winchester. And of course dirt cheap brass.

For the various improved models, its pretty easy to find load data and ballistic numbers, but I haven't found much for the plain jane original. It looks like there are a lot of cartridges that are benefitting from the newfangled powders, I'm guessing the bigger Whelens ought to as well.

Anyone here at AR have chrono data for the .375 Whelen Unimproved they'd like to share?

thx

I built a 375X280 IMP years ago and easily got 2300 fps out of a 300 grain bullet. Nice cartridge for an 06 action.

Alliant Power Pro 2000 should be THE powder for the 375 Whelen.

With the 270 - 300 grain bullets, start at 55 grains and work up.
I use WLR primers.

Whelenite, you have a .375 Whelen? If so, what loads have you developed?

thx

Tater, I have a 35 Whelen AI which I have loaded with PP 2000-MR powder under 225-275 grain bullets. I worked up to 59 grains under the 275 Hawk bullet with only .0018" case head expansion.

My chamber is tight, and fired cases only hold about 1.5 to 2.0 grains more powder than a standard Whelen does. With the larger expansion ratio of your .375 caliber, I'm sure 55 grains would be a safe starter with 270-300 grain bullets.

My best load was 62.2 gr of 2000-MR under the Hornady 250 SP for a chronographed 2625 fps out of my 24" barrel, with a .475" 3-shot group. Here's my rifle:
