Heym Express rifle made by Martini

Just curious if anyone on here has one of these rifles? I'm looking for a big bore and these rifles have gotten my attention. A little more than I wanted to spend but from what little I've seen they look like you'd be getting your money's worth. I'm leaning towards one in 416 Rigby.

ryry4: I took delivery of one of these rifles a few months ago. It is in 404 Jeffery. It is probably the smoothest feeding big bore that I own. You will not be displeased if you order one of these. Here's a photo of mine before I put a Nightforce scope on it:

I've put 20 rounds through it, (Hornady factory rounds loaded with 400 grain FMJ bullets). It is accurate, and fine to handle. Mine has a 24" barrel. With the scope, sling, and full magazine, it weighs 11 lbs. 14 ozs. As I am not a big fan of giant recoil, this weight was fine with me.

ryry4: there are a few different grades of this rifle, starting out with the field grade, which is blued throughout. Mine is the safari grade, which includes a little fancier wood, a coin finished receiver, bottom metal, bolt handle and grip cap. There is also some minor border engraving on these coin finished components. I do not believe the receiver is stainless steel…just coin finished. Best. Chip.

They will barrel these in 416 Rigby or even in 458 Lott as well.

I ordered one in .416 Rigby at SCI in Vegas. I spent a lot of time at the various booths handling a half dozen or so .416 Rigby's from different manufacturers and the Heym Martini was the best feeling rifle out there by far.

Plus when my wife asked me what I'd like to drink for dinner that evening, I was able to tell her I'll have my second Martini of the day!

Yes, I have one also, but got mine in 375 H&H. Seriously slick rifle, very accurate, had several 300 yard one shot animals. Shot geese in the head at 225 - PH says you can't hit that, if you do it will mess up the meat too much, I said, I'll hit the head, if I do will you go get it? He said no, but I'll have someone get it. Here they are:

As was mentioned, there are a couple different grades on these, starting with plain blue, case colored, polished and engraved, I didn't see one that was ugly. Chris has a recent "deal" on these with a scope and mounts, give that some thought, the mounts are not easy on todays short scopes and long rifles.

Post edit - forgot to add the one negative - can't throw a round in the chamber and close the bolt. Have to push it into the magazine, then run the bolt. I think I could fix that with a little work on the extractor, but haven't bothered. Haven't had to shoot anything twice with it yet, seriously. Wait, I did have several shots on a waterbuck, before re-sighting in on the first day.

I did run a little short of 375 ammo on the last trip...

Hyem USA's current offering is the rifle plaus a Swaro 1-6 Z, I think, which is a nice set up.

If you do a search you will find the thread, it was within the last couple of weeks.

Nice shooting on the spurwing geese. I'd glad to see others using hunting rifles on geese. Head shots work, but so do body shots. The trick is to keep things in the top half of the body sillouette. The meat rests in the bottom half. If the goose is in the water, just take out the floating part with the wings.

I should receive my Heym Express in .416 Rigby mid-April. Have some Federal Premium 400gr Barnes TSX along with some 400gr TB Sledgehammer. I also had John at Safari Arms put together a 20 round test set of 4 different loads.

I'll let you know what works best for me.

I think I ordered the first one when they were introduced a couple years ago. It's a .416 Rigby. I, too, looked at everything that was offered at the DSC show that year & decided on the Heym. Call Chris & see if he will still do the rifle/Swaroski package. If not, buy the rifle anyway. It's a world class rifle as good as anything you'd find from any of the English makers, only priced better. A GREAT bargain & GREAT rifle.

as long as you are shopping, take a look at the 404J ballistics VS the 416 Rigby. the 404 (actual bullet diameter is .423) was the choice of most game departments over the 416. One more round in the magazine, and a much lighter, trimmer action and rifle.

I have owned both in CZ's and am now in process building another 404J.

Each magazine box and each action, is cartridge specific.

Has anyone ever compared the 416 to the 404 in terms of weight and handling? I’ve read that Heym make their rifles cartridge specific, so am interested to find out if the 404 is much slimmer and trimmer than the 416 or if the difference is negligible.
