Mike Scott.375 H&H Flanged Magnum Nitro Express
This cartridge is 100 years old and seems to be having a surge in popularity.
Do you have one? Do you have pictures or information to share?
I am impatiently waiting for delivery.
H&H Centenary PageYes, a Rigby Sidelock that was rebored by Ken Roberts in the ?? probably 70's or 80's.
Would love an H&H in one.
Can't post photos, sorry.

Yes I have a Heym. What did you order?

Alberta CanuckI had a C&H DR in that chambering. The cartridge was not loaded by Kynoch (or earlier by Eley) quite as warmly as the belted version, but it was still a very fine round for just about anything if used properly.

Mike ScottIt would seem appropriate to order a Holland and Holland DR, but I didn't

... I am waiting on a single shot rifle from Luxus.

SaxonPigMaybe I am wrong but I have never heard "Nitro Express" used on the 375 H&H Flanged. I thought the Nitro Express label was for the smaller 375x2.5" cartridge. I have seen this ammo labeled as Nitro Express but not the 375 H&H rimmed.

Re the photos of the two rifles, what is the one on the left ?
Is that a big palm swell on the wrist ? Interesting.

Dave BushI just bought a Chapuis .375 Flanged. I really like the rifle. It is very well balanced. If Hornady ever makes brass, this thing will take off like a scalded dog although I really like my 9,3X74R too. Graf & Sons has Norma brass. I am thinking that all the Jamison stuff in now gone.

The other gun is Doc's VC 600NE. A real beauty of a rifle. I held and lusted over it at the last SCI show in Vegas! It has all the features you'd want in a custom rifle. Right down to the stalking safety!

CCMDocThanks for the kind words about my 600 Todd.
In answer to Antlers's question, the V-C 375 with 26" barrels and integral scope mounts weighs exactly 8.6 pounds.
Stay well

Mike ScottThe names get mixed and matched; even by Holland and Holland. Just check out the variety of current ammo offerings.

Mike ScottWhat are you loading / shooting?
I have some old stock BELL brass and a set of RCBS dies with plans to build the traditional loads with 235, 270 and 300 gr bullets.
I have also seen HDS, Bertram, Jamison and Norma labeled brass. (Is the Norma brass really going to be available?)
RCBS and CH4D has dies.
I can find loaded ammo from Westley Richards, Kynoch, Nosler, Norma and Corbon.
I have reloading data from Barnes, Graeme Wright's Shooting the British Double Rifle and some that has been privately shared. I have not yet received my copy of African Dangerous Game Cartridges.
What am I missing?

Mike ScottDoes anyone have suggestions for good books that feature the 375 Flanged Magnum besides "Shooting the British Double Rifle" and "African Dangerous Game Cartridges"?

Mike ScottIf anyone is looking for brass, there is a guy selling on gunbroker for about $1 each.
Who made HDS brass again ?
My mind has gone blank.
I though HDS stood for Huntington Die ??????
and was made for them by Bell brass or BELL Brass
but if someone can correct me, that would be good.
Thanks

Mike ScottI have seen several people state that BELL made almost all of the HDS (Huntington) brass. I have a bunch of the BELL 375 brass and so it may be the same brass with a HDS head stamp.

GanyanaMike
Have a Krieghoff .375 FL. All the brass is Norma. Mix of nickeled and plain. Norma only sells the nickeled as loaded ammo (PH) series and only sells plain brass.
I think I have seen Nosler were going to offer it as well - Nickeled cases loaded with their partition and brass solid.
Actually very happy with the woodleigh solids (Norma factory ammo) in the nickeled cases and handload my own softs in the brass cases (Swifts and mostly, Norma Oryx). The Oryx bullets are a bit soft for buff to be ideal but they are perfect for lion and all general plainsgame. Swift of course is a great buff bullet.
Have found the round very forgiving to reload-at least in the Krieghoff, and had no dificulty in getting my handloads to shoot to same point of impact as the factory solids.
NB- Norma did a limited run of 350grn woodleighs in .375 FL. These are the only ones I have seen offered for sale in the US. My rifle shoots them ok...but they cross at 50m. Good enough for close range work but I prefer the 300grn.
19 July 2012, 21:40
Mike ScottI have seen about 5 different types of ammo for sale in the US with Norma listed as "coming soon" and Nosler as "special order".
I will be loading my own for the most dangerous game in my near future; white tail deer. The muskrats and ground hogs better watch out too!

I have some Bell as well and am pretty sure that both Bell and Huntington told me that Bell make the HDS Brass.
That HDS Brass for sale on Gunbroker is good value.

Use Enough GunI have one on order with Butch Searcy and should be getting it this fall sometime. It will be a screw grip action. Really looking forward to getting it! I believe that subsailor has its twin coming at about the same time!

And, Tim Carney has one coming from Butch that is just about finished (See Double Rifle Posts).

Thanks for that.
That could well be so, Bell have been out of the brass game a fair while now.
