After 2 years of hemming and hawing over a silencer design, waiting 11 months for ATF approval and another year of waffling over baffle design, I finally built and tested another 50 caliber rifle silencer. This one is for an LAR Grizzly 50 BMG rifle, my previous design was for a much smaller 510 whisper.

It doesn't hurt my ears to shoot in the open without protection, but I'll use ears plugs when I shoot it in the future.

That's very interesting. I've got a Bowers 458 on the way and I'll probably be trying to suppress some subsonic Win Mag loads. Nice video.

Nice job, Randy! Even after viewing, I cannot believe a .50 BMG could be suppressed so effectively. tu2

There were some complaints about the sound quality so I re-edited the video hopefully with higher volume.

Where you firng a full power .50 load or a subsonic one?

That was a supersonic load. I don't have a place to shoot it right now that is nearby. One gun club I belong to was shutdown and another doesn't allow 50 BMG even with subsonic ammo. When I bring it to a range that allows 50 BMG I'll record more shooting, subsonic and full power loads.

The difference between suppressed and unsuppressed supersonic loads does not appear to be very significant when recorded on a cheap camcorder and played back on a computer in flv format. There is a big difference being there in person though.

That's true of many things in life, isn't it?
