I have revamped the photo gallery on my website to provide a recognition guide to automatic weapon cartridges 12.7-57mm, plus anti-tank rifle, spotter and other odd types! See: http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/tankammo.html

Cool pics, especially liked to 20mm selection. Saw a WWII era 20 anti-tank rifle once some time ago, don't remember much except that it looked like it could have inspired the Barrett 50 BMG rifles. Will have to go back and see it again.

Greetings!
Visited a French battleship, the Jean Bart, years ago and she had a multitude of twin-mount, automatic guns that I was told were 57mm. Any idea or pictures of these rounds, how/what they compared to, etc? Never saw a round of ammo for them that I can recall.
Regards,

These were Bofors guns, firing the 57x438R ammo. In this pic from my photo gallery, it's the cartridge on the far right. The one on the far left is the current Bofors 40x364R L/70.

Many thanks, Tony - I knew someone here would have an answer! Do you have any idea of the rate of fire of these guns?
Again, thanks, and best regards,

You're welcome!

120 rpm per barrel.

The French designed their own mountings for the gun; everyone else who used that weapon used the Bofors mountings.

The ammunition is still in service and in production (in different loadings) in the current Bofors 57mm naval gun.
