Odd 45-70 Cases
A not-so-important question on some odd 45-70 cases. I bought about 250 unfired cases, which measure within SAAMI limits on all parameters as 45-70. Standard large Boxer primer pocket. Solid--not balloon or semi-balloon head. They weigh virtually the same as the other "normal" 45-70 cases I shoot.

Headstamp is WCC 67 45 M32. Anyone know what I have?

Hello Dugga:

I'd heard that suggestion before--thanks for the confirmation. Any reason you can think of NOT to use them in standard smokeless rifles?

Many years ago several of us from college went on a backpack trip through big bend national park on the border of south Texas. There had been a major battle after the turn of the century between the Mexicans + Federal troops. There was still lots of 45-70 brass lying in the sand.Being a historical site,I left it where it was.

Weidener's used to sell a lot of these cases years ago.Have some around here. And that is exactly what those cases are, line throwing gun cases. Our ship had line throwing guns much like the H&R shotguns. They would shoot the line attached to a rod with a plastic tube on the front end. They would attach the other end of the line which looked like para cord to a much heavier line which the other ship would haul aboard. This was done at at sea replenishments usually taking on fuel or refuleing other ships, stores or ordnance. Frank

M32 is the designation of the 45/70 line throwing gun.
