Mine died just fine with a 270WSM. I think anything in the 6.5-7mm range would be ideal.

I've successfully used a 300 Win mag a couple time. While there might be better suited cartridges, this choice worked just fine for me.
I'd say any good, flat shooting mountain rifle in .277 through .308 would do the job without issues.
IMHO,
Zeke

Planning to shoot Berger VLD's.

Planning on taking my 300H&H for Ibex in 2016. Thinking of loading Nosler's 165gr Accubond should be able to get 3100 to 3200fps...
Any thoughts??

My thought is if you hit them in the right spot, they will die very quickly! I'd run some sort of ballistic reticle or turrets and be comfortable to 500 yards.

Berger VLD bullets work great as well as the regular Berger Hunting bullets.

.300 WSM has worked great on my sheep hunts. Also used on Ibex last year in Spain. Taking it to Mongolia this year and trust it will do fine.

Bullets, light or heavy ...
I've been running ballistic programs on bullets ranging from 165 to 190 for my 300H&H, not much difference out to 300yrds past that energy and drift become a factor..
Thoughts

As you'll likely be shooting sub 500 yards and you'll be shooting prone, I'd take the lighter, less recoil option, providing 165s shoot well from your rifle of course. Energy has never killed an animal. As long as you have enough energy for a your bullet to expand and penetrate, that's all that you need to worry about. Even with mono metals, inside 500 yards you've got plenty of impact velocity for them to reliably perform.

Two calibers 300 win mag and 7mm mag good for Ibex, Markhor or if you get the opportunity Marcopolo and blue sheep. you can , with a good rifle and scope place your bullet where it matters upto 600 yards with enough punch to bring the trophy down. !

No need to go overboard with overly powerful cartridges for the job. A 270win. would be ideal. Nothing more than a 300win. mag would ever need to be used.

I used 7mm Mag. for ibex and tur very sucessfully. I am sure 300 Mag. is perfect too. What I noted is that 300 Win.Mag. Seems the most commonly used calibre, so your chances to get a few cartridges for whatever reason are best.

I will be taking one of John Bolliger's 300RUMs and a 300WM (Shilen) as a backup. Dialed-in ballistic turrets. Got 6/6 in Spain last year.

I would recommend a Magnum in the 6.5-300 Class!!! I used a 6.5 Magnum with 120gr Barns TTSX on a Mid Asian Ibex.

Shot one with 7 mm Rem Mag and two with 300 Win Mag. No difference as long as you hit them where you should.

Been very successful with my H-S Precision PHL in 6.5 Creedmoor loaded with 140gr Accubonds on several different Mountain species (Free-Range Mouflon, several Chamois, etc) out to 400 yards - all 1-shot and done. It also makes for a very handy and easy to carry rifle in the mountains - taking it next week for Snow Sheep. I have high confidence in its accuracy and lethality on Ibex-sized game out to about 500 yards.

That said, I’m currently building a custom 6.5 PRC for Tur hunts and other game where I’m anticipating very long shots on tougher critters. Also have a .300 win and .300 Wea but really have no desire to lug those big rigs when covering many miles in the mountains

Took this Kamchatka Snow Sheep at 480 yards with my 6.5 CM using Hornady Precision Hunter 143 ELD-X. Performance was flawless.
