Our club conducts these matches each month. If the rifle shooters can have this type o match , handgun shooters need one too.

Perhaps we could have a Postal Match.

VINTAGE MILITARY PISTOL MATCH

NOTICE: TO EXPEDITE THE TOURNAMENT, EACH SHOOTER SHOULD BRING A STAPLE GUN, STAPLES, A ROLL OF MASKING TAPE OR WHITE PASTERS AND A PEN. THIS WILL MAKE TRANSITIONS DURING SCORING FASTER AND MORE EFFICIENT. OTHER EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE SIGHT BLACK, A SPOTTING TELESCOPE OR BINOCULARS. ALL SHOOTERS WILL CARRY THEIR HANDGUNS TO THE FIRING LINE IN A CASE. THE HANDGUN MUST BE POINTING DOWNRANGE WHEN THE CASE IS OPENED.

What: A tournament using handguns used by military organizations that the model was used at least 50 years ago or older, all shooting is with one hand at US Army “L” targets at 25 yards.

Where: Southwest Gun Club’s McComb Range facility. It is 6 miles East of McComb, MS on US Highway 98. When driving from McComb, drive East on US98 until you see the Homestead turnoff sign. Drive 2 miles further and the driveway to the range is on the North side of the road. It is a driveway that cuts into the hill. There is no sign or marking on the main road for the club. You will have to drive to the next turn around and come back to the driveway. Drive to the back of the property. If driving from Tylertown, MS, drive past the Bogue Chitto River Park and look for a roadside market on the right. The range driveway is 2.2 miles past the store, on the right. The name of the range road is Edna Drive, McComb, MS for GPS use.

When: sign-up at 8:30AM shooting starts 9:00AM

NOTE: This match will allow any Centerfire handgun with iron sights to be used. Those using non military handguns will be put in a seperate category. Check note at the bottom of the program about using .22 RF pistols or revolvers in this match.

Other pistols will qualify as long as they are as issued (no after market sights) and not altered in anything but a trigger job. Not everyone has an original pistol and we do not want to eliminate any potential shooters from this contest. As long as the pistol or revolver is of the same model as the handgun used by the military organization, it will qualify even if it is less than 50 years old. We also will not prevent anyone from firing in this match because of their pistol not qualifying. If their pistol does not qualify, their score will be counted in a special category.

For additional info, call the Secretary, Doug Bowser 601-341-8797

NOTE: If a shooter does not have a qualifying handgun, they are welcome to attend this event. They will be placed in a separate category. We do not want to exclude anyone from these events. You are also welcome to use a .22 RF pistol or revolver in this match. We have Ruger .22 RF 5.5" target pistols available and .22 RF ammo available for members and first time shooters at $2.00 per box of 50 rounds.

NOTE: WE ASK ANY SHOOTER WHO HAS A QUALIFYING HANDGUN AND AMMUNITION, TO USE IT IN THIS MATCH IF POSSIBLE. WE ARE GETTING AWAY FROM THE SPIRIT OF THE VINTAGE MATCH IF WE HAVE A LOT OF SHOOTERS USING .22 RF EQUIPMENT WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE TO. Sometimes a shooter may be low on proper ammo. Then the .22 RF is OK to use.

Doug, good to see you here. I was thinking about "Rifles of the White Death" just a couple of days ago.

S&W Model 10, 15 and 28. All 3 of these handguns were used by US fores over 50 years ago. It takes a good shot to shoot 5 shots with a revolver in 10 seconds. The trick is, fire the first shot as the target turns and then you have 5 seconds to fire 4 shots.
