I would like to see the bullet test on steel. The 17 Rem would bore holes in 1/2 steel plate where the larger bullet would not go thru.
The 12, 14, 17, 20 cal. test would be of interest as I have killed 5 Texas whitetail deer with the 17 Rem and have had several customers use the 17's to take turkey and deer. My first 17 cal rifle was made in 1961 and now I have changed over to the 204 Ruger.

We have done test on 1 inch steel plate.

Only bullet went through is the Speer Tungsten Core.

Everything else made either a slight dent or a crater but never made it through.

We tested all sorts of calibers, the Speer was a 375.

Good thing that animals are not armor plated.

I remember years ago an article on the penetration of armor plate. Do not recall the thickness.
A 30-06 left a divet in it.
A 220 swift blew through it.

Yes, high speed lead core bullets will punch through some steel, but
If you really want to punch a hole in something you need real AP ammo; watch this video.

I have fired literally thousands of AP rounds from 30 cal, and 50 caliber.
Tank rounds too but since all those are made for penetrating armor plate, I guess those don't count.
Except HEP. Beehive (flechette round) and WP, which we don't have on the 120mm M256.

Is this the article?

Saeed, have you ever fired sabot rounds into steel? I'd be interested in seeing a .30 cal steel AP core fired with a sabot at around 4,000 + fps into armor.
