Hi Mates,

I got a spot of news today from Ganyana; he can fill in details at the Dallas SCI meeting. He won't be in Reno this year. It seems that "Oriental Massage with Six Inch Spike Heels" was not accepted on his AH expenditure voucher.

Anyways, a (believe it or not) Respectable friend of his has gotten infected with an especially virulent form of Tick Bite Disease or possibly Lyme disease than usual. Since we can't get him/her to the Johns Hopkins Medical Centers tropical medicine team, I'll try and treat from a distance.

I'm guessing that treatment will require twice a day dosing with ceftriaxone for 28 days. I'm guessing about $20.00 USD per dose my wwholesale cost times 54 doses equals $1,000.00 USD. I'm on for several doses plus some more for future needs. There is no duty on medicines going into Zim. With the breakdown in health surveillance and loss of nutrition Zim is in the middle of a large cholera epidemic, and possibly one of the biggest epidemics of rabies ever. The crocodille has indeed eaten the sun.

If ten hunters were able to toss in $50.00 each, I'll be able to hopefully get enough medicine on the plane back east with Ganyana. I'll post the exact (scanned) bill for the medicine on AR. If the patient dies before medicine is purchased, I'll return all monies immediately.

Checks should be made out to Owyhee Medical Clinic, C/O John Noak, MD. I'll publish names, or maintain anonymity for donors, as desired. I'm sorry to have to solicit help, but my own little medical problems have me barely scraping by as it is.

There is no mail delivery to our street address of 106 West Idaho Avenue, Homedale, Idaho, so the mailing addy is:

Owyhee Medical Clinic
PO Box 907
Homedale, Idaho 83628

Please accept my humble thanks.

LD

PS Keep the diesel fuel level high enough in Ganyana's veins so that he continues to be "100% disease proof".

Yah, my math sucks. I have a few anonymous check writers.

I think we are in good shape; close enough that I can fill any gaps.

The cost of medicines is like any commodity; it changes day by day. I've called some of the medicine wholesalers in the country - Cardinal, Henry Schein and the like.

I can say that the patient is female who's first name starts with a "K". She is a bit younger than most of us. If we pull this off I'll ask if she wishes to address the peanut gallery here.

A lot of tick borne fevers are caused by spirochetes, a primitive bacteria. This one is very resistant to the usual medicines that the few remaining doctors in Zim have access to. Syphilis and Lyme (Borrelia Burgdorfi) are two examples of spirochettes.

I'll keep on top of the case day by day, make the final medication decision on the 6th, and have the medicine shipped to Ganyana two days later.

The generosity here just blows me away. We may have been all balls, dick and no forehead when we were younger, but our girlfriend's mothers were dead wrong, we are the finest group of fifty +/- year old hooligans on the face of this earth.

LD

PS Thank you all for the help. Any left over funds will go a weeks supply of condoms; personalized, of course. Don't worry, your wife will see them on the table next to the christmas cookies.

Lawndart,

I like Rocephin....good drug, great penetration into the CSF too.

But, wouldn't doxycycline have been the better choice for a month of treatment?

Pretty cheap too.
Just my 2 cents,

Garrett

Check on the way just in case you need a 'booster'. Spirochetes are nasty stuff, much worse than parakeets.

Hi Folks

Over the years Lawndart has been very good to the professional hunting community sending out things like quickcolt and tramadex that Have been freely distributed to PH's. He has also made specific medicines available when we have not been able to get them here.

I spoke to the lady concerned last night. After three weeks of Doxy and two doses of oral Azithromyacin - she is "stable" down to a fever and a headache...

The eastern border of zim is a Doc's delight at the moment- with many diseases that we thought had been erradicated 50 years ago making their appeareance again. So far 32 deaths from Rabies and 16 from Anthrax.

When I emailed Lawndart to get some advice on antibiotic recomendation to treat a resistant strain of tick fever/lyme disease- I had no idea it would require so much money! Still I am VERY greatful or those who have contributed. The person who is sick is one of the very few journalists working for the international media who is still actually reporting from inside Zim.

I'm happy to report that I received checks from fourteen wonderful donors. We order the medicine today and ship it next Tuesday.

The medicines to be sent are ceftriaxone (Rocephin), azithromycin (Zithromax), ciprofloxacin (Cipro) and some hemostasis medicines that I have covered myself.

I am very humbled by this outpouring of generosity.

I will post some pictures, and a complete accounting of where the monies went in the next week.

Thanks again for your help; I could not have done any of this without you guys who "walk the talk" quietly and professionally.
