Hi, I will be getting married in July, and thinking of honeymooning to Barbados. Any recommendations? Advice,good/bad etc. We are in our early 20's. Any help is appreciated!

Never been there. Heard it was quite expensive.

One of the best and cheapest vacations we ever had was in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Some great resorts, many all inclusive, in Punta Cana.

We stayed at one of the Barceló Bavaro resorts. Never left the facility. They had golf, great beaches, clubs, casino, live shows nightly, etc. Ate lobster once a day for a week.

Flew direct to Punta Cana via a brief stop in Santo Domingo for fuel only.

You might do a comparison with Barbados and see what you think.

Thank you, i will look into the Dominican for sure. After looking/reading alot of websites, I believe that if we do go down this route of Barbados then we will rent an apartment on the beach for the week.(Supposedly that is the way to go when in Barbados). We shall see, heck 2 weeks ago we were set on Alaska, now were headed the wrong direction!

One of my partners vacations nearly every year in Barbados and does what you are suggesting -- renting a cottage on the beach with a staff to cook, clean etc. He loves it. No idea what it costs.

Barbados would be a fun time, indeed.

If you are looking to spend a little less, avoid large scale commercialization, and you want beaches without big crowds you might want look into St. Croix.

A group of us vacation every year all over the Caribbean. We only stay in rented villas. Don't do the resort thing.

Since it is your first time and your honeymoon which you don't want to ruin, i would suggest looking over the offerings on Villas Caribe site then contacting them. They are the booking agent/property managers based in the USA.

Yes, we have definitely decided to stay away from the resorts. It seems that on most of the Caribbean islands, i have found many houses/apartments for rent that are under $100/night, on the beach and fully furnished. With all the reviews,(most of them very good), it is hard to justify even thinking about doing an all inclusive? IMO

I've been there as a stopover on several sailing trips, but is has been about 8 years since I was there last.

Barbados is small, beautiful, safe and very quiet and did I mention it's sorta small? If you just plan on sitting in the sand and doing a little snorkeling/diving, it's great. If you want to get out and explore, it will take you a few hours to see everything and then you are back in your chair sitting in the sand.

If you are into fishing, there is decent inshore and offshore available, but you guys may want to be spending more time doing other newlywedinly things. But if you want something quiet / intimate, then you won't be disappointed.

Went there 10yrs ago for my honeymoon.
Stayed at the Sandy Lane about 2 weeks after Tiger Woods rented out the entire place for his honeymoon. Place was amazing but expensive as hell. The resort right next door was pretty reasonable, sorry don't remember the name.
Mount Gay Rum tour was interesting. Also did a jeep tour which was a great way to see the island.

I have heard that it is overall pretty expensive, but i have also heard that the prices drop significantly in the off season(which is when we will be there)..Chapsboro, what month were you there? We will definitely be touring the rum factory's and doing some fishing!

We were there in October which for the carribean is Hurricane Season. November is non-Hurricane Season and the price goes up 30-50%.
I've been to the carribean numerous times during October and have gotten lucky (missed 2 hurricanes by 4 days in Bermuda this past Oct). That being said, Barbados is so far south and east in the carribean that we were told they don't get hit that much by hurricanes.

Wifepoo and me honeymooned in Barbados 25 yrs ago. Only drawbacks are driving on the wrong side of the road and driving and night driving with barely being able to see the local folks in the dark.

Having recently been to St. John, that's where I'd recommend going. But that's just my $0.02

Congratulation! I can't help you with Barbados info but I can assure you your fever will be breaking soon.

Best medicine for that fever is wedding cake. The cure is worse than the disease though.
